Job Purpose

To provide technical Support to MoES, Project Institutions and beneficiary institutions so as to comply with the environmental safeguards’ requirements in accordance with the National Policies, Laws, Regulations and the World Bank Safeguard Operational Policies and Guidelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The Environmental Safeguards Assistant must be a holder of at least a Degree in Environmental
Management, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or Natural resources
management, with experience of at least 5 years in the field of Environmental Assessment and Management.

Additional experience in dealing with environmental, health and safety issues as well as management or implementation of safeguards relating to infrastructure construction projects.

Additional qualifications in Environment and Social Impact Assessment is an added advantage

Working knowledge of Uganda’s legal and regulatory framework is required as well as understanding of World Bank’s Safeguard Operational Policies.

Knowledge of supporting a comprehensive and balanced approach to environmental safeguards
management is required including screening, scoping, research, risk assessment, planning, project development and implementation, monitoring and reporting.

Proficient in the application of key software packages (MS Office/Microsoft Excel/SPSS Packages)
and any environmental/social analytical packages.
