Ministry of Agriculture, Animal & Fisheries Assistant Commissioner, Dairy and Meat Jobs in Uganda

Minimum Qualification

Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) / or a Bachelor’s in Animal Production Technology and Management (BAPTM) from a recognized University/ Institution and a Master of Science degree in any of the above fields. A postgraduate qualification in management and or administration will be an added advantage. Veterinary Officers should be registered and licensed by the Uganda Veterinary Board.

Working Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience in either Veterinary Medicine or Agricultural Engineering, three (3) of which should have been served at Principal Officer level in Government. Veterinary officers should be licensed and registered by the Uganda Veterinary Board.

Duties

The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner for performing the following duties:-

Providing technical guidance on formulation, review and implementation of dairy and meat policies, legislation, regulations and standards;

Promoting environmentally friendly and economically viable dairy and meat production systems in various eco zones throughout the country;

Establishing

and maintaining an effective diary and meat production system;

Managing provision of sustainable services, including research for continuous national herd growth and improved diary and meat production consistent with the prevailing macroeconomic policies;

Providing advice to the Ministry and Local Governments on the establishment and maintenance of the appropriate infrastructure generally required for dairy meat production;

Guiding and promoting use of improved stocking materials and sustainable natural resources management;

Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
