Job Title: Group Pharmacy Coordinator
Function Department: Medical Services
Reports To: Clinical Services Manager
Main Purpose of the Job (Job Summary): The Group Pharmacy Coordinator will oversee operations in all the organization’s divisions and ensure patients receive consistent, high-quality care and management of medicines.
This involves setting up of system-wide standards and protocols as well as providing leadership across all of Meridian Health Group’s pharmacy services and working closely with key stakeholders across the group.
Main ResponsibilitiesManagerial and AdministrativeDevelop the departmental annual business plan.
Develop and promote medication management and use plan with other stake holders that improve patient outcomes – including responsibility for the development of medication management policies, protocols, initiatives & guidance, and implementation of regulatory requirements.
Monitor response to identified issues and facilitate resolution through the relevant organizations as required.
Oversee the department’s service areas performance and productivity as well as staff performance.
Monitor the cost of materials and work with the procurement department in the competitive quotation/tendering process to ensure the most cost-effective purchasing of stock.
Oversee the design, implementation and management of a safe and effective medication use system and develop and implement the department’s policies.
Ensure that medication use systems are developed and based on evidence-based literature and best practice standards, operate effectively and efficiently across the continuum of care, and are continuously evaluated and improved using contemporary quality-improvement methods.
Responsible for developing plans for the continued operation of medication-use systems, and for the provision of pharmaceutical services during emergencies and disasters.
Conduct thorough workforce planning exercises assuring adequate and efficient staffing of the various services and effective allocation of resources throughout the department.
Manage the department including objective setting, appraisals, training, annual leave, supervision, and reflective practice.
Conduct regular department meetings
Ensure that department staff practice in accordance with technical, regulatory, and professional standards of practice.
Provide professional leadership for medication management processes for the organization.
Supervise and maintain operation of the pharmacy ensuring safe storage, accurate and efficient dispensing of medications.
Develop, improve and evaluate pharmacy quality processes and methods and recommend changes as required.
Establishing mutual partnerships with suppliers to enhance quality service delivery.
Keep track of the pharmacy margins.
Participate in all disciplinary processes for pharmacy staff.
Establish and ensure regular meetings for the Medicines and Therapeutics Committee.
Formulate and continuously improve pharmacy policies and procedures according to established pharmaceutical principles and regulatory requirements.
Supervise drug inventory procedures, inventory management, and security of drug supplies and medication storage outside of pharmacy.
Regularly update the pharmacy formulary in keeping with current evidence.
Ensure that all legal requirements are met by the Department.
Perform other related duties as assigned

Academic & Professional Qualifications
Essential
A Pharmacy Degree with 5 Years’ Experience
OR
A Pharmaceutical Technologist Diploma with 10 Years’ Experience
Desirable
Post Graduate Degree / Diploma in Management
Work Experience & Skills
Essential
Experience in a similar position.
