Job Summary:Responsible for supporting the Nutrition Officer in case management of malnourished clients in the inpatient and outpatient departments. Ensures improved nutrition awareness and proper management of malnutrition cases by participating in outreach activities and providing technical support to community health teams.
Job Responsibilities Provide nutrition education and nutrition assessments at the health facility and in community outreach activities; enrol beneficiaries in nutrition programs as per project guidelines
Responsible for case management of malnourished patients and ensure that all routine medication and food is administered appropriately for patients in treatment programs
Prepare food and support the feeding of malnourished patients under observation in the inpatient wards
Build capacity of inpatients and caregivers by advising on proper care and nutrition at home
Carry out home visits to follow up on discharged patients to ensure adherence to advice
Build the capacity of community health staff in nutritional screening, case detection and referral
Ensure all malnourished children have child health cards and up to date immunizations; Perform routine growth monitoring activities
Prepare weekly, monthly and activity reports for inpatient and outpatient departments
Ensure the security of food and related nutrition supplies, including taking precautions to avoid contamination
Ensure the kitchen and surrounding environment is hygienic and well maintained
Ensure that nutrition practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Code of Conduct
Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Licenses and certifications
Diploma in Human Nutrition, Dietetics or related field is required
Minimum 1 year of nutrition field experience with a busy
project implementing IMAM is required
Experience in clinical medicine or community health is an added advantage
Experience working in emergency operations is an added advantage
Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of nutrition principles and management of acute malnutrition
Demonstrated knowledge of infant and young child feeding practices
Skills
Skilled in conducting nutritional assessments and managing cases
Skilled in presenting complex information at an appropriate level to an individual or group
Skilled in using behaviour change strategies to mobilize community members to take ownership of healthcare needs
Skilled in report writing
Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook to write reports
A good command of both written and spoken English
Abilities
Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy
Keen desire to build capacity of staff
Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in situations which require a high degree of diplomacy
Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
Physical conditions:
This position requires work at health facilities and in communities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.
