The Medical officer shall be responsible for active recruitment of participants into the CHAPS trial to evaluate On Demand Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis to Provide Protection from HIV in Men, according to study specific standard operating procedures and manuals.
In addition, he/she will provide care to study participants and when possible other patients within the PostAbortion Care and safe male circumcision clinic, Entebbe General Referral hospital, as a member of the in and out-patient Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) facility team
Responsibilities
Participant recruitment and retention- obtaining informed consent, screening for
study eligibility, and enrolling study participants. Providing directly observed
therapy (DOT) for the trial to ensure adherence.
Clinical care- Providing clinical care to trial participants and conducting referrals as
appropriate
Data collection and management- Collecting data as required by the protocol,
completing source documents and CRFs and submitting them for data entry, and resolving
queries
Administrative- Develop and implement recruitment strategies, and liaise with all teams throughout the trial; supervising other study team members including nurses and field
workers
Conducting continued professional development (CPD) training activities and maintaining documentation of such trainings
Preparation of progress reports to trial investigators, UVRI REC and regulatory bodies
(UNCST and NDA) when required.
Participating in trial web conferences and teleconferences in order to share updates and
stay updated.
PI designee duties- performs other duties assigned by the project leaders
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery.
Minimum of 1-year experience in clinical practice preferably in a research setting.
Familiarity with community research-based principles is an added advantage.
Previous experience of implementing research
study protocols.
Hands on experience with provision of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision.
Previous experience in research or project leadership is an added advantage.
Previous experience in training and managing small research or project team is also an added advantage.
Should have an uunderstanding of ICH/GCP guidelines for human research.
Should have an up to date practicing license.
Registration with the relevant professional bodies i.e. UMDPC.
Willingness to participate in occasional night and weekend work schedules is an added
advantage.
Should have good communication skills.
Knowledgeable in use of Microsoft Office packages.
