Roles & Responsibilities• Inspect Laboratory equipment and conduct routine maintenance in line with manufacturers’ recommendations and prepare the related compliance and calibration reports;
• Diagnose problems when laboratory equipment breaks down, decide the best repair methods and ensure repairs are carried out in a timely manner;
• Service and replace faulty laboratory equipment;
• Ensure timely response to the job requests from the various laboratory sections;
• Recommend outsourcing of works that are beyond the scope of internal resources and supervise outsourced contractors/ suppliers on site;
• Requisition and ensure adequate stocks of supplies and equipment in the stores;
• Prepare the biomedical budget and monitor its implementation upon approval;
• Maintain up to date records of maintenance costs, incidents and procedures;
• Ensure adherence to the PPM schedule and health and safety standards Hold daily and weekly operational meetings;
• Provide technical assistance on equipment calibration and maintenance within the laboratory;
• Support calibration and certification of equipment by external service providers;
• Support maintenance of the air flow and HVAC systems with the Category 3 laboratory;
• Build internal capacity of the unit to manage and repair laboratory equipment;
• Provide Technical guidance and assistance to projects during procurement of new equipment;
• Installs new and relocated equipment by adjusting, establishing, testing and calibrating performance of laboratory equipment;
• With assistance from the head of Estates, develop and maintain a cost recovery model for the biomedical Engineering services and sustainability model for the section;
• Preparing laboratory equipment maintenance KPIs and reports including equipment availability, cost control, and adherence to PPM;
• Prepare weekly progress reports for all visits,
including instructions, amendments, labor force, quality, Health, and Safety;
• Support inventory management of laboratory equipment; and,
• Carry out routine training as required of laboratory staff and users in order to ensure correct usage and maintenance of equipment
Person Specification• Degree in Biomedical Engineering from recognised Institution;
• Training on Laboratory equipment calibration from a recognized institution for the following measurements: volume, mass, temperature, rotational speed and pressure;
• Training on ISO 17025;
• A minimum of 5 years’ hands on practical experience with 3 years in a supervisory role;
• Proven experience in installation, preventive maintenance, repair and commissioning of; DC and AC Power systems, Solar Power Back-up Systems and Solutions, UPS, AVR and generators;
• Driving experience and current updated license;
• Knowledge and ability to carry out maintenance of biomedical equipment;
• Knowledge of biomedical equipment used in hospitals;
• Should possess excellent organisation skills;
• Proficiency in computer use required in MS office packages;
• Analytical skills;
• Problem solving skills; and,
• Judgement and decision-making skills
