General Purpose of the Job:
The Nutrition manager will be responsible for implementing and monitoring all International Medical Corps’ nutrition programs and activities in Somalia ensuring that they are of good quality, and that they are implemented in accordance with international humanitarian standards and donor guidelines.
The Nutrition manager will be expected to attend all nutrition related regional coordination meetings including liaising with the Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders.
In addition, the nutrition manager, will ensure adequate reporting and documentation of all related nutrition activities including reviewing weekly/monthly, project/Donor reports and training reports from the field and ensuring timely submission of such written reports to the supervisor.
Responsibilities
Ensure and supervise directly the technical work of the nutrition teams at the health facilities and communities while adhering to all global and national Nutrition protocols and guidelines.
Ensure all projects are implemented in line with project work plans (PMTs), approved budgets, and works closely with the managers to find ways to improve operational efficiency on an ongoing basis
Ensure coordination and proper linkages are established between nutrition and other sectors such as Health, WASH & protection sectors.
Participate in the implementation of the nutrition surveillance activities i.e Surveys & other nutrition assessments
Coordinate with the Ministry of Health and other national and county level government officials to facilitate the timely implementation of project plans and objectives; ensure IMC is an active member of the nutrition cluster at regional/district level.
Coordinate with the national Ministry of Health and other national/regional level actors to facilitate the timely implementation of projects and objectives, ensure program design address the needs and priorities of the country.
Work closely with logistics to ensure timely delivery of Nutrition supplies.
Responsible for overall collection of good quality data within all nutrition programs, assure the nutrition team collects good quality data and is capable to use the data for
monitoring and maintaining good quality program implementation.
In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation staff, review field work plans to ensure quality and timely reporting
Compiles weekly/monthly and training reports and ensuring timely submission of such written reports to the Nutrition Program Manager.
Assist the nutrition coordinator in organizing and leading nutrition technical trainings with the field team and individual staff members, on both a regular and ad hoc basis.
Conduct regular field visits to ensure the capacity of the field teams is built through OJT, mentorship and CMEs at the health facilities.
supporting and supervising field staff develop action plans for project implementation.
In collaboration with the PMs ensure overall planning of all related nutrition activities and coordination of work among the team.
In collaboration of the Nutrition coordinator provide answers to the team members’ routine questions (on technical matters relating to nutrition program).
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and relevant qualification.
3+ years’ relevant work experience (minimum 2 years in a developing country/emergency response setting)
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a nutrition program, previous program development/ management experience in a humanitarian/ emergency context required, experience in training staff required
Fluency in English and Somali required
Ability to exercise sound judgment in response to changing needs in the field
Flexible and able to deal with stressful situations
Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources in difficult settings
Strong communication and leadership skills
Demonstrated knowledge of nutrition in emergencies, adherence to and proven record in demonstrating core competencies
Desired:
Experience in managing Nutrition in emergencies programs required
Fluency in English and Somali language required.
