Medecins Sans Frontieres Clinical Officer Anesthetist Jobs in Kenya

Location: Likoni Sub County, Mombasa , Kenya
Administer and maintain anaesthetics following the rules of hygiene and asepsis
Be reference person for pain management within the health facility and when applicable train other medical staff
Evaluate the risk of operating in collaboration with the Surgeon Doctor.
Carry-out all anaesthetics related activities during surgery, according to the procedures set before-hand by the doctor anaesthetist (if any); to collaborate in patient’s adequate anaesthetized state and safety during the process.
Prepare beforehand the drugs, material, and equipment required.
Monitor patients throughout the whole intervention.
Provide post-operative care, including immediate post-operative surveillance in the recovery room (ensuring patient’s recovery of consciousness and setting analgesic protocol)
Implement and follow at all times hygiene rules, procedures and protocols, as well as look after the integrity of anaesthesia material (decontamination, sterilization, storage conditions, etc.) and other equipment, in order to ensure the safety and protection of patients and other staff.
Know accidental blood exposure policy and procedure and implements them when necessary.
Education
Diploma in clinical medicine and surgery or clinical medicine and community health from a recognised institution;
Higher diploma in Anaesthesia from a recognised institution.
Certificate of registration from the clinical officers’ council;
Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution
Experience
Desirable previous Anaesthesia experience of at least one year,
Languages
English Essential, local language, Kiswahili, desirable.
Knowledge
Desirable computer literacy
Competencies

Medecins Sans Frontieres OT Nurse - Circulating Jobs in Kenya
Application deadline: 13th June 2017
Location: Likoni Sub County, Mombasa , Kenya
Main Tasks include, but not limited to:
Ensure the preparation of the material and equipment (checking the quantity and quality), in the OT and carry-out the reception, transport of the patient from the preparation room to the OT and ensuring his/her installation for surgery.
Assist the surgeon and anaesthetist during the operation, anticipating their needs, in order to facilitate their job and helping throughout the whole process.
Checks vital parameters of the patient with the nurse anaesthetist
Organize the patient’s transport and installation from the operating theatre to the recovery room and carry-out and/or supervise all the post-operative activities (used material collection
Implement and follow-up the hygiene, sterilization, asepsis and disinfection protocols and procedures at all times, in pre, during and post-operative activities, in order to
ensure the patient and staff’s safety conditions.
Supervise and train the nurse-aids and cleaners while in the OT in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
Control all equipment and material stock to be used in the OT (carrying out inventories, checking its quality and its functioning, storage conditions, doing follow-up of expired drugs, etc.)
Carry-out and supervise administrative procedures and documents (check identity of patient and his/her consent for the operation, fill in patients files, forms, statistics, quantitative surgical data collection, etc.)· Participate in data and reporting
Intervene in support of other services whenever needed and work particularly in close collaboration with the accident, emergency department and with obstetrics.
Ensure instruments, equipment and supplies are at hand, in good working condition and ready for use
Demonstrate how to setup a theatre for a procedure ensuring all surfaces, floor and operating lights are clean and free of dust and fluids
Explain the recommended distance away from the sterile field when presenting sterile supplies and instruments to the sterile field and demonstrate correct movement between sterile fields
Demonstrate the correct participation with the surgical team and instrument nurse at the completion of the procedure
Requirements:
Education
Higher diploma Nursing with specialisation as a theatre nurse from a recognised institution
Diploma in Nursing from a recognised institution
Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
Valid practising licence from Nursing Council of Kenya
Certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution
Experience
Desirable 2 years’ experience. Having worked with MSF or other GNO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
Languages
Local language(s) essential and Mission working language, Kiswahili and English
