Kwale International Sugar Company Limited is seeking a highly qualified and suitable candidate in the following position.

Position:

  • Mechanic (Trailers)

    Department:

    Reports To:

  • Assistant Workshop Manager

    Job Summary:

    To keep equipment / vehicles available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles/equipment; completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil change, tire rotation and remedial maintenance.

    Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interview drivers or operators and take a detailed history of vehicle/equipment performance or mechanical failure.
  • Diagnose vehicles / equipment based on observational and mechanical testing as well as information provided by driver, operators or user.
  • Provide the workshop manager with detailed estimates for repairs and replacements and obtain signature approval prior to commencing work.
  • Inspect machines, engines, transmission etc and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability and perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems.
  • Test drive vehicles / equipment after repair is complete to ensure mechanical soundness and to determine whether any other problems exist.
  • Describe vehicle’s / plant’s condition to driver/ operator or user and
    follow-up questions.
  • File appropriate documentation on each repair.
  • Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
  • Replenish fluids and components of engines or machinery.
  • Provide guidance on correct maintenance and preventive measures for machines or vehicles to users.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g. Repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles etc).
  • Keep vehicle service records for accountability purposes.

    Person Specifications

    Academic Qualifications

  • Government Trade Test II and above qualification.

    Experience

  • 3 to 4 years’ work experience
