Who You'll Work With You will work in the Africa hub in Johannesburg as part of our global Social Sector, Healthcare and Public Sector Entities (SHaPE) Capabilities & Insights team, with a focus on economic development.
McKinsey's Social Sector, Healthcare and Public Sector Entities (SHaPE) aspires to bring the best of our global firm to help governments to improve the lives and livelihoods of citizens worldwide. We also help leading global institutions to better deliver on their mission to solve the world’s most pressing health, economic and social issues. We work in close collaboration with other private sector practices at McKinsey on specific themes (e.g., agriculture and financial services).
You will also be part of our global Client Capabilities Network, which includes more than 2,000 colleagues, who bring a wide spectrum of capabilities, including knowledge consulting, analytics consulting and data engineering, research, client development and practice management.
What You'll Do
You will work with consultants and other team members to understand, disaggregate and prioritize their research needs.
In this role, you will identify the key issues for the team and determine the most appropriate solution, effectively balancing quality, availability, timeliness, and cost factors. By working with broad information source knowledge and your understanding of McKinsey’s global network of knowledge professionals, you will efficiently collect, summarize and synthesize the relevant facts.
You will provide research end products delivered to consulting teams in the form of charts, tables, frameworks and written summaries. Where appropriate, you will guide consultants in the use of online knowledge resources and systems.
You will also develop a broad
knowledge of public and social sector sources with a focus on the economic development. You will contribute to the continuous task of building and managing a state-of-the art knowledge infrastructure by reviewing and selecting information sources, establishing links to external experts, and developing and maintaining relevant assets and capabilities.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in economics, public policy preferred.
2+ years of work experience in the public or economic development sectors.
Ability to creatively retrieve, summarize and present complex information.
Strong analytical, quantitative and IT skills; excellent search skills on web sources and electronic databases.
Excellent problem-solving mindset.
Highly collaborative team player that can work as part of a geographically dispersed team as well as work independently.
Ability to interact with consultants and knowledge colleagues; ability to develop and utilize global networks across practices and client teams.
Strong service-orientation.
Demonstrates a high-energy ‘can do’ attitude and desire to work on different types and lengths of projects.
Inquisitive, investigative nature.
Flexibility to operate in an evolving environment.
Excellent communication skills.
