Job Description

Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS) is non-government and non-profit making organization dedicated to the national control of cancer. It is Ethiopian Resident Charity, has been working with national and international partners on NCD Control program in general & cancer in particular.

The society has been collaboratively working with Federal Ministry of Health and partners on National Cancer Control. The society is supporting pediatric and women cancer patients who are under treatment at Black Lion Hospital.

Thus, the society is intending to employ full time nurse to facilitate the implementation of cancer care and support projects at the Center and Black Lion Hospital. For further information please refer to the society's website:www.mathiwos.org 

Duties and responsibilities

Plan, manage and coordinate the overall pediatric and women cancer patients treatment, care and support activities of MWECS.

Register; follow up of patients’ appointments checkups and admission and referral linkage in contact with Referring Hospitals at different regions across the country.

Regularly supervise follow the treatment progress of the patients, check for vital signs of the patients and follow up emergency conditions.

Regularly document the patients’ data and properly file documentation both at MWECS Psychosocial Center and BLH.

Plan and schedule of meal, periodic entertainment, educational and psychosocial counseling program for patients staying at the hospital in collaboration with partners.

Manage procurement /payments of medications, food, transport, lab requests and additional

medical investigations /diagnosis of the target beneficiaries.

Keeping and safeguarding all store items with the policy and procedure of MWECS and makes sure the available resources andsupplies are efficiently and effectively utilized.

Regularly monitor ,personal hygiene, sanitation (infection prevention) of the center, personal hygiene of patients and waste disposal mechanism of the center etc,

Closely work with the Program, Administration and Finance Team for the smooth implementation of activities.

Involve MWECS volunteers and members in implementation activities related to the patients and treatment supporters’ care and support.

Monitor, collect and document patients data; and prepare timely complied reports
Performs any other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education requirement………BSC in Clinical Nursing from recognized health College/institution.

Experience…………………… Minimum of five years working experience as a Nurse of which two years’ work experience in cancer   treatment is preferable.

Additional skill required: experience in care and support of pediatric and women cancer patients. Two years of minimum hospital experiences required. The clinical nurses expected to have demonstrated clinical experience in care and support of chronic patient’s .willing to work at night and weekend.
