Mary’s Meals Kenya (MMK) operates a Primary School Feeding and Early Childhood Development programme in Kenya.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following post:
Programme Coordinator – Turkana CountyThe role of Programme Coordinator is to lead the implementation of the Mary’s Meals school feeding programme in partnership with Caritas Lodwar, providing operational and managerial oversight of the programme team.
The Programme Coordinator, through strategic planning and continuous programme development will contribute to strengthening and developing the school feeding programme and the partnership between Mary’s Meals and Caritas Lodwar.
The post holder will also collaborate with stakeholders at county, community and in some instances, the national government. The role will support the Caritas Lodwar team to achieve high standards in all aspects of programme delivery and adhere to Mary’s Meals mission, vision and values.
Reporting to the Mary’s Meals Kenya (MMK) Programmes Manager, the role holder will be based in the Caritas Lodwar offices with the school feeding programme team.
Through a matrix management structure, the role holder will coordinate the Caritas Lodwar Mary’s Meals delivery team in their day to day activities to ensure the efficient and effective programme delivery in line with the Mary’s Meals model of school feeding.
The role holder will actively promote improved collaboration, consistency, sharing of best practice and capacity building between the two organisations.
Key Deliverables To prepare and submit strategic plans, yearly budgets and workplans with Mary’s Meals.
To build and effectively manage a highly motivated Caritas Lodwar school feeding programmes team.
To ensure timely implementation of all programme activities through agreed work plans and effective resource management.
To produce and deliver regular reporting to the Mary’s Meals programmes team.
To carry out needs assessment work and collect information to identify school, , supplier and delivery options.
Support Caritas Lodwar to enhance efficiency of programme delivery.
Review current programme tools and practices with a view to implementing School Feeding Delivery Model (SFDM) tools and processes where appropriate.
Support information sharing between MMK/MMI and Caritas Lodwar
Represent Mary’s Meals externally to engage schools, communities, county and national governments and clearly communicate the vision, mission and values of Mary’s Meals.

Reports to: MMK Programmes Manager
Direct Reports: Diocese of Lodwar (DOL) School Feeding Programme Staff
External Relationships: Schools & communities, suppliers, local authorities.
Internal Relationships: Mary’s Meals Kenya Team & Mary’s Meals International Programmes Team
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications, skills and experience
Essential
Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. social sciences, business administration, logistics) or demonstrable/significant experience in a similar
role
Effective programme management skills, including programme design and planning, budget preparation, reporting and review and sharing of best practice
Understanding of the place of school feeding in relief and development
Ability to develop and structure a team and show decisive leadership
Good numeracy, with experience of data recording, collation and analysis for decision making
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to focus on and prioritise key tasks and effectively drive forward and implement agreed actions
Very good computer literacy with high proficiency in Excel
Well-developed, interpersonal skills, with the ability to network widely, persuade and influence others
Highly resilient, self-reliant and motivated, with the ability to organise own work and prioritise tasks
Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in different countries and settings.
Has a warm, engaging and inspiring personality, with good networking and interpersonal skills
Team management experience, including engaging and motivating a team of staff
Experience of monitoring and reporting against agreed strategy
Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
Desirable
Experience in managing the safety and security of teams
Experience of managing programme implementation for a NGO, preferably in African ASAL context
Experience of liaising with Government, NGOs and community groups
Experience of implementing and reporting against projects funded by institutional donors
Experience of working in remote or isolated environments
