The Role

The post holder will manage Marie Stopes Uganda (MSUG) Marketing, Communications and Advocacy program with the following goals:

  • Ensuring high visibility for MSI among stakeholders, and strengthening beneficial relations with Ministry of Health, development partners, Members of Parliament and Media.

  • Development and implementation of cost-effective marketing and communication strategies for MSUG products and services.

  • Support the development of policy and advocacy grant proposals, implementation and monitoring of advocacy activities.

  • Manage the MSI Client Contact Centre.

  • Ensuring effective performance management of communication teams and individuals to meet MSI quality standards and agreed donor deliverables.

    Key Responsibilities

    Marketing

  • Develop, implement and monitor integrated marketing and communications strategies for all service delivery channels in close collaboration with channel leads.

  • Develop demand-generation strategies to drive awareness of MSU products and services.

  • Oversee all areas of content generation and production across all media platforms, including mass media, website, digital and social media.

  • Provide timely reports on all marketing activities, campaigns, and performance.

  • Utilize internal and external resource to gather client insights to develop and execute new concepts and business models for effective marketing communications initiatives.

  • Develop and monitor campaign budgets and provide timely reporting on all campaigns, department initiatives and their performance.

  • Coordinate with advertising and media experts to improve marketing results.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities.
    Communications

  • Work closely with the partners, stakeholders, and other agencies to develop strategic Family Planning / Sexual
    Reproductive Health communication plans and ensure that MSI’s activities are in tandem with national policy objectives.

  • Develop relationships and new partnerships with other implementing partners and community stakeholders to expand reach, impact and value for money.

  • Lead the team on all areas of content generation, design, and development of IEC materials across all channels and media platforms to ensure quality and consistence.

  • Ensure all activities, messages and promotions are consistent with MSI global brand position and guidelines.

  • Together with Monitoring and Evaluation, analyse the impact of various communication campaigns and activities to inform programming

    Public Relations

  • Manage MSI Representation professionally, proactively and in line with core values at external events, meetings, and interfaces.

  • Ensure representation of MSI on different forums and technical working groups, strengthen and cultivate mutually beneficial operational relationships with partners through an effective information, education, and communication mechanism.

  • Develop and manage strategic external relations promotion programs targeting district leaders, community members, MOH and other stakeholders.

  • Manage MSI’s public relations and promotion programs to ensure high visibility for MSI, strengthen linkages with various development partners including but not limited to Ministry of Health and Members of Parliament and all stakeholders.

  • Manage MSI events, public engagements, business clinics, exhibitions and other information dissemination activities.

  • Manage the clients and stakeholders call centers, customer care and front offices, communication and media relations including overseeing electronic and print media, MSI website and social media engagements.

    Policy Advocacy

  • Provide technical assistance and support to MOH in the development of SRHR guidelines and other policies.

  • Oversee the implementation of advocacy grants through tracking activities and work plans, expenditures
    against budget provisions to ensure that planned activities are in line with allocated budgets and time frames and in compliance with donor regulations.

  • Support MSI in the acquisition of new advocacy grants and maintenance of current portfolio to increase grant funding aligned to Marie Stopes Uganda strategy.

  • Support effective and ongoing coordination among MSI, partners and collaborators throughout the advocacy grants implementation process.

  • Strengthen and cultivate beneficial relationships with government ministries, NGOs and, community leaders.

  • Represent MSU on different NGO forums and SRH advocacy groups as appropriate

    Contact Centre

  • Management of the contact centre to ensure quality and consistence.

  • Ensure that feedback from the contact centre is shared with all channels leads and utilized for programming.

  • Develop partnerships and sign MOU with various organizations to strengthen contact centre referrals and promotion.

    Internal Communications and Leadership

  • Ensure excellent internal communications to all staff, thereby building a team culture, support for the mission as well as each other, and MSI values and behaviours.

  • Ensure that performance deliverables are set for the Communications Team.

  • Manage performance through regular monitoring against and agreed dashboard for all communication areas.

  • Identify and support all relevant organisational teams to correct any quality, compliance, operational or client care issues affecting communication activities to improve client outcomes.

  • Coordinate development of advocacy I.E.C materials and training manuals for field staff.

  • Support and deliver training to ensure consistency in the quality and performance across all communications activities.

  • Ensure timely, complete, and accurate financial and programmatic reporting of all activities.

  • Ensure activities are implemented to MSI standards, on time and to budget.

    Experience

  • Demonstrated writing skills: the ability to develop quality concept notes, proposals, logical frameworks and reports under tight deadlines.

  • A strategic thinker: the ability to develop proposals which meet strategic objectives of donors, MSI, and government.

  • Innovative and the ability to think outside of the box.

  • Team player: the ability to work as part of a diverse team to achieve the overall goal.

  • Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    Qualifications and Training

  • A master’s degree in marketing / Communication / Public Relations / Public Administration / International Development / Social Work or relevant professional qualification.

  • Knowledge on Sexual Reproductive Health and rights.

  • 7 years of experience in SRHR related work, preferably in the areas of marketing, advocacy and communications.
