Malteser International has been working in what is now South Sudan since 1996. It implements programs related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food & Nutrition Security, Livelihood, Health and Disaster Risk Reduction and Livelihood Building Programs.
In Wau, the sector portfolio comprises mainly WASH and F&NS. The various projects of Malteser International are located in the states of Lakes, Eastern and Western Equitoria and Western Bahl al Ghazal (Juba, Wau, Rumbek, Yei, Maridi and in the surrounding areas). For its work in Wau, South Sudan, Malteser International is looking for an experienced Project Manager (FNS/WASH)
As Project Manager you will implement the Food & Nutrition Security (80%) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programming (20%), providing leadership, technical oversight, and management of a project under the supervision of the Program Coordinator in Wau.
You will be responsible for ensuring and maintaining compliance with Malteser International and donor quality and accountability standards in Wau State, South Sudan.
This position includes conducting assessments, writing proposals, implementing a project, capacity building of local partners and Malteser International staff, monitoring and evaluation and preparation of periodic reports.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and technically monitor the implementation of all project activities according to the objectives, indicators, work plan and approved budget
Ensure regular and proper project documentation and reporting according to donor and MI standards, rules & regulations (interim and final reports, monthly reports) and link the project closely and pro-actively to the program level
Lead the project team and ensure sound financial management (review, budget control), administration and logistics practices of the project
Provide technical and managerial support to all team members in fulfilment of their duties according to project objectives and ensure compliance with MI policies and international standards
Develop and put into practice appropriate and cost-efficient monitoring tools to improve the WASH conditions and FNS situation with regard to expected results and indicators as mentioned in the log-frame, work plan and other relevant project documents
Represent MI towards local authorities, partners and donors in close coordination with the Country Coordinator
Assist MI
management with any requests for information or data regarding program expansion or development
Supporting the Country Coordination team in developing WASH programs and supporting the MI project teams in planning and implementing WASH projects in their locations
Monitor security situation in project area and ensure that staff follows security regulations
Qualifications:
University degree in Agricultural Economics, Nutrition, Development studies or related fields. Master’s degree preferred
3 to 4 years field experience with NGO’s in developing countries
Experience providing food & nutrition security and WASH technical support to internationally funded grant projects
Proven experience in contributing to program quality including experience with innovative approaches within the food & nutrition security sector
Experience in integration of food & nutrition security, economic development, institutional capacity and other key cross cutting themes (gender, environment)
Project management and design experience with internationally funded grant projects, as well as project implementation and monitoring & evaluation
Ability to communicate and provide technical support on food security, nutrition and livelihood topics with diverse groups: farmers, managers, bureaucrats, donors, etc.
Strong experience in working with international donors, preferably also with German donors (ECHO, BMZ, AA, etc.)
Proven communication skills including the ability to effectively motivate people and to diplomatically manage the relationship with local partners, different authorities and donors
Excellent ability to lead a team, work in a team and to mediate
Experience in working with different cultures and different backgrounds, strong interest in the local setting and the target groups
Prepared to work and live with limited resources and under difficult circumstances; physical and mental strength
Fluency in English (written and spoken), knowledge of German and local Arab is an asset; proficiency in using standard software packages
Conditions:
Starting date: as soon as possible, latest November 2018
Duty Station: Wau, South Sudan
Duration of contract: 24 months
Salary according to qualification and experience, insurance package, accommodation in team house/apartment
