About MakSPH:
The Makerere University School of Public Health is committed to improving the health and well-being of all populations, especially in low and middle-income countries. The KP-CSO program, with finding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aims to address barriers to healthcare and human rights faced by key populations in Uganda, in alignment with the UNAIDS and PEPFAR priorities.
Job Summary:
The LEA Activity Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the execution and monitoring of the Legal Environment Assessment (LEA) activity which focuses on fostering strategic policy and civil society organizations engagements to remove legal and human rights barriers for key populations (KPs). This role is pivotal in addressing the challenges generally faced by KPs, and more so in light of the recent legislative changes in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities:Strategy & Implementation: Oversee the implementation of strategic activities aimed at engaging with policy and civil society stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with national and local government representatives, civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
Program Monitoring: Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of activities, ensuring alignment with the overall strategy and objectives.
Reporting: Document progress, challenges, and successes and report to relevant parties.
Collaboration: Work closely with KP-CSOs, consultants, health workers, law enforcement, and judiciary
officials to ensure seamless execution of planned activities.
Capacity Building: Strengthen KP-led organizations through training, technical assistance, and support.
Required Qualifications:
Master's in Public Health.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with or on behalf of key populations.
Demonstrated knowledge of the HIV/AIDS landscape in Uganda.
Familiarity with Uganda's legal and policy environment, particularly concerning KPs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in health, human rights, and law.
Proven track record of engaging with high-level stakeholders, including government officials and international organizations.
Strong communication and advocacy skills.
Fluency in local languages is an advantage.
