Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a private-not-for profit Company under Makerere University.
MJAP works to build partnerships and strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB, Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and other diseases of public health importance in Africa.
MJAP is implementing a sub-award grant from Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), for accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Kampala region; with funding from the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
MJAP is seeking competent, passionate and dynamic individual to fill the position of a Nurse.
Role Definition
To provide continuous comprehensive nursing care and treatment to patients with TB and
Advanced HIV disease and document clinical outcomes in line with MoH clinical guidelines and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the clinical teams in the outpatient Clinic; and receive, screen, triage, resuscitate and treat TB and HIV patients
Support the clinical teams in the outpatient TB Clinic to monitor TB and HIV patients through measuring vital signs and regular clinical assessment in line with MoH guidelines and Standard operating procedures.
Organise and support TB and HIV patients who need investigations and forward them to clinicians and laboratory according to urgency and patient need.
Review patients’ prescriptions, explain the treatment and possible side effects and administer the medicine in line with MoH guidelines and Standard operating procedures.
Document patient information for TB and HIV in the relevant data collection tools and generate reports.
Collect, document and keep nursing records in line with program guidelines and procedures
Conduct initial and on-going counseling to patients and families in accordance with National counseling guidelines on HIV.
Guide TB and HIV patients and families on navigating the hospital departments to effect patient flow from entry to discharge.
Keep phone
contacts of patients and care takers on discharge to make follow up, referrals, etc
Work with Supervisor to prepare transfer letters for patients transferred to other health facilities
Keep an updated log of TB and HIV patients who are admitted at the Clinic.
Collaborate with the HIV clinic and Advanced HIV Disease team to optimize care for TB and HIV at Kiruddu National Referral hospital
Participate in continuous quality improvement for TB and HIV care
To ensure that the TB clinic adheres to the COVID-19 infection prevention and control procedures at all times
Qualifications
Degree in Nursing or related discipline
Must be registered with the Nurses council
Proof of a valid practicing license with the regulatory body responsible
At least 2 years’ experience in comprehensive HIV and TB management and implementation
Special knowledge in the management of TB and HIV/AIDS and other opportunistic infections; as well as emergency care.

A Team player, ability to empathize and be patient,
Excellent nursing and counseling skills.
Time management and ability to work under pressure; with minimum supervision
Ability to engage with patients, partners and all Health care providers professionally and respectively
