Magic ingredient that earned Strathmore As in 2016 KCSE
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations makers were strict on the marking of the English paper and that is why most of students missed on the A grade, Strathmore Principal John Muthiora has said.
Muthiora said analysis of the examinations indicate that most candidates performed poorly in the English paper, thus affecting their overall grades.
“Although our school led in the country in English, we noted that the overall subject performance across the schools was not good,” said the principal.
Muthiora, whose school was the best in Mathematics and English nationally, said they are keen on moulding young people of character who can fit in the modern world.
“We have noted that once one is well founded as a person, success is inevitable. We have therefore been keen to ensure our students are disciplined and respectful and in return they do perform well,” he said.
He attributed the school’s stellar performance to character formation and discipline. He also pointed out that one of their tricks on excellence is focus on extra curriculum activities to make the students all-rounded.
“Our students who are day scholars arrive at 7.30am and leave school at 3.30pm. In between, they spend much time in their various clubs,” he said.
The principal said immediately a student enrolls in the school, he is given a mentor to guide them through their four years at the institution.
