LVCT Health Roving Laboratory Technologist Jobs in Kenya
Overall PurposeResponsible for ensuring delivery of daily quality and efficient laboratory services as per the laidout guidelines and policies.
The roving laboratory technologist will manage laboratory operations in the region, developing and review procedures to ensure safety, quality, and accuracy of results in line with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP), performing tests and reviewing results,
compiling reports and managing laboratory commodity supply chain.
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide routine laboratory services at the health facility or during outreach as required.
Prepare work plans and budgets to guide implementation of program activities to ensure
that all the targets are met within specified time periods
Provide mentorship and on job training both to new laboratory employees and to those with identified capacity gap.
Coordinate laboratory commodity management within the region; accountability, distribution/redistribution, timely consumption reporting and ordering.
Perform effective laboratory networking of samples within the region to ensure quality
and timely delivery to the testing laboratories (Gene xpert, Viral load and CD4).
Perform a monthly laboratory quality indicators analysis for the facilities within the region; Turnaround Time for V.L and Cd4 (TAT), sample rejection rate and uptake.
Promote Ministry of Health engagement with the specific County/Sub County Medical
Laboratory Technologist (S/CMLT), for lab related activities e.g; Commodities/RTK
allocation, Proficiency testing, Biosafety, trainings, etc.
Reviews Quality Control, Maintenance, and Equipment records for all facilities in the region as per the requirements.
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities at the facility
Participate in community mobilization through development and dissemination of messages to encourage
different target groups to utilize laboratory services at the health
facilities and community
Compile and submit laboratory monthly reports as required by the program.
Participate in education and training of staff through Continuous Medical Education
programs.
Advice the national level on status of implementation, best practices, identified gaps and opportunities for program improvement
Minimum Requirement
Degree or a Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science.
Must be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board
(KMLTTB) and have a valid practicing license
5 years progressive work experience 3 of which must have been in a Laboratory supervisory role with excellent technical knowledge in laboratory networking.
Training/certification in ISO 15189 or Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) will be an
added advantage.
Required Skills
Self-motivated and able to work under minimum supervision.
Able to work under pressure and in a diverse laboratory environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate.
Demonstrated leadership and a history of excellent problem-solving skill.
Excellent organizational, computer and record-keeping skills.
