Secondary School Head TeacherJob advertisementJob role:Under the guidance and direction of the Education officer (Kaya Secondary School), the Secondary School Head Teacher will substantially contribution of the teachers to the effective learning of students, motivating and inspiring Teachers so they can reach their fullest potential in delivering services in both curricular and non-curricular activities. This includes preparing students for secondary school leaving examinations.
The Secondary School Head Teacher under the guidance of the Education officer will ensure the implementation of the South Sudan Secondary Syllabus and maintain documentation in accordance with LWF Secondary School policies and LWF South Sudan guidelines and procedures.

Background:
LWF has worked in Maban County since September 2012 and currently is the service provider for Education and Child Youth Protection in Yussif Batil, Gendrassa and Kaya refugee camps.
Kaya Secondary School is a day school for the refugee community and Host situated in Maban County. It is an English language school where Arabic is taught as a subject.
Kaya Secondary School is a newly opened school the school currently undergoing registration of students. The Moto of the school shall be, vision and mission statement are:

Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Lesson Planning;
§ Overall administration and management of schools affairs which include material and human resources.
§ Ensure all teachers have prepared scheme of work and lesson plans ahead of teaching and are attending to duty regularly and to all lessons allocated on the time table
§ Ensure that all the documents and records for the school are duly filled and filed correctly.
§ Ensure Exams are set and administered and learners get reports on progress regularly.
§ Ensure daily attendance of learners in the classes follow up on any noted cases of absenteeism.
§ Liaise with Education Officer, School Committee and community Leaders in all matters of school administration.
§ Ensure the correct use of all school property and supplies at all times
Additional responsibility
· Uphold at all times the LWF core values, policies and code of conduct are followed in the school
· Ensure that no form of abuse of students takes place in the school and report any cases witnessed of heard of for appropriate action.
· Ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained in the school at all times
· Promote and advocate for enrolment of all primary school leavers (p.8), especially girls
· Assist in the management of the other school
programs as may be deemed necessary for the development of students.
· Update the Education Officer – Kaya on the progress of the education interventions and attend any meetings or discussions as advised by the Education Officer or his designate
Staff Management
The Secondary School Head Teacher does manage the work of the Deputy Head Teacher and Teachers.
Secondary School Head Teachers are expected to support with the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and Student Bodies in the School;
Coordination
§ Attend all meetings as organised by the Education officer for Kaya or Senior Education officer
§ Support the Teachers in Organising co-curriculum activities (e.g. sports clubs, journalist clubs, environmental clubs, debating clubs)
§ Coordinate closely with the Education officer regarding donor and media visits to Kaya Secondary School ensuring all the required preparation is completed thoroughly and on-time.
§ Highlights cases of concern to the Education officer who then refers to the Senior Education officer
Other
§ Perform additional tasks as required as directed by the Education officer or Snr. Education officer.
§ Report any violation of the code of conduct and child protection policy of LWF/DWS.
Skills and competence:
Preferred Degree in Education from a recognized institution with at least 3 years teaching experience
Essential completion of Secondary Education
· Acquired Experience as a Head Teacher would be an added advantage
· Able to Teach at least not less than 2 different subjects
Computer skills are advantageous
Good understanding of the South Sudan Education System and Secondary Education Syllabus
Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work under pressure and demonstrated resourcefulness
Effective member of the Education Team and role model; demonstrates creativity in seeking better ways to do things and shares with team, and promotes high standards
Takes responsibility for own work and can prioritize work under pressure
Demonstrates developed communications skills
· Demonstrated ability to work in a team
· Positive and optimistic attitude and approach to work.
