Lake Basin Development Authority Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services Jobs in Kenya

Lake Basin Development Authority is a regional development authority established by an act of
parliament cap 442 of the laws of Kenya and is mandated to spearhead development within the Lake
Victoria basin and its catchment regions, with a view to fostering integrated sustainable economic
development and empowering communities of the region.

In view of this and as part of fulfilling our mandate, the following positions on a three (3) year renewable contract terms are open for application from qualified candidates.

  • Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services

    Description of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Providing Secretarial services to the Board of Directors and robust leadership to team
    of professional staff in the Legal services of the Authority.
  • Provision of guidance to the Board on their duties and responsibilities and on matters
    of governance.
  • Assisting the Authority in carrying out Board induction and training, updating Board
    and Committee charters, preparation of Board workplans, Board evaluation,
    Governance Audit and implementation of the code of conduct and ethics.
  • Ensuring timely preparation and circulation of Board and Committee papers and
    minutes.
  • Provision of advice to management and the Board on all legal matters affecting the
    Authority
     Ensuring safe custody of and proper use of the Authority’s seal
  • Participation in negotiations, drafting, and reviewing of contracts, leases and other
    legal instruments entered into by the Authority and third parties.
  • Ensuring proper representation for the Authority in court and in arbitration
    proceedings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and all legal requirements as stipulated in
    the Authority’s Act and all other Acts that affect the Authority’s operations.

    Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be a holder of Bachelor’s of Law degree from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s degree in law or Social Science is an added advantage
  • Be an advocate of the High
    Court of Kenya, hold a valid practicing license and a post
    graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law
  • At least five (5) years post qualification experience
  • Be a member of Institute of Certified Public Secretaries ICPS (K)
  • Ability to work in high-pressure, deadline driven environment
  • Outstanding leaderships skills and ability to delegate responsibilities effectively
  • Exceptional communication and reporting skills
  • Should demonstrate clear understanding of the role of Regional Development in line
    with vision 2030 and the constitution of Kenya 2010
  • Comply with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010
