Position SummaryThe Medical Oncologist will treat patients with all forms of cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, sarcoma, neuroblastoma, and more.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesDiagnosing and treating children with cancer and other childhood cancers such as bone marrow disorders, leukaemia, lymphoma, sarcoma, neuroblastoma, and others.
Providing treatment plans to patients who have been diagnosed with cancer, including surgical procedures, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, stem cell transplants and other treatments.
Participating in clinical research trials to study new treatments or improve existing treatments for cancer patients.
Coordinating with other health care providers to ensure that all aspects of a patient’s care are being addressed.
Performing diagnostic procedures such as biopsies and Bone marrow aspiration to diagnose patients with cancer.
Educating patients and their families about the treatment process to help them understand what to expect during treatment.
Providing support to patients during treatment through counselling and emotional support.
Providing follow-up care to patients after they have finished treatment, monitoring for signs of recurrence, and helping them cope with any lasting effects of treatment or illness.
Ensure use of all Hospital’s automated systems, as appropriate, including the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS);
Any other responsibility assigned by the supervisor in the delivery of care
Minimum Academic Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of
Surgery or equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other recognized University by the Medical Practitioner and Dentist Council.
Master of Medicine (with speciality in oncology) or its equivalent from any recognized University by the Medical Practitioner and Dentist Council.
Fellowship in medical oncology from a recognized institution or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC.
Valid Practice License from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
Proficiency in computer applications.
At least one (1) year working experience as a Paediatric Oncologist in a reputable hospital.
