Colorectal Surgeon- V/FT/152/2022 – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishing and operationalising of colorectal unit to provide out-patient and in-patient consultative services to patients with gastrointestinal pathologies

  • Provide laparoscopic or open surgical services to both benign and malignant lesions of the G.I tract

  • Display competency in both diagnostic and therapeutic lower endoscopy. Skills in EMR,ESD, TAMIS and TEN is an added advantage

  • Provide acute care to general surgical patients while “on call ”

  • Supervise the implementation of evidence based care and treatment plans by other cadres of staff in the hospital

  • Participate in development of standard operative procedures and protocols relevant to field of specialisation

  • Conduct continuous medical education and research in clinical area of work

  • Participate in community out-reach prevention services with aim of providing patient education to common pathologies of the colon and ano-rectum

  • Display agility, prioritize and organise work to meet changing conditions and level of evidence towards patients care

  • Participate actively in oncology multi-disciplinary meetings, provide evidence-based decisions tailored to individual patients

  • Display excellent communication and inter-personal skills

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Master of Medicine in Colon and Rectal Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

  • Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC.

  • Valid Practice License.

  • Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • At least one year of working experience as a proctologist Surgeon in a busy hospital.
