Bariatric Surgeon - V/FT/153/2022 – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishing and operationalizing of bariatric and weight loss unit that provides out-patient and inpatient consultative services to patients with gastric pathologies, morbid obesity and other metabolic disorders

  • Provide laparoscopic or open surgical services to patients requiring bariatric surgery

  • Display competency in both diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy. Skills in EMR and EMD is an added advantage

  • Provide acute care to general surgical patients while “on call”

  • Supervise the implementation of evidence-based care and treatment plans by other cadres of staff in the hospital

  • Participate in development of standard operative procedures and protocols relevant to field of bariatrics

  • Conduct continuous medical education and research in clinical area of work

  • Participate in community out-reach services with aim of providing patient education on weight loss programs and healthy lifestyle

  • Display agility, prioritize and organize work to meet changing conditions and level of evidence towards patients care

  • Participate actively in multi-disciplinary meeting consisting of nutrition, physiotherapy, endocrinology and other relevant departments offering evidence-based decisions tailored to individual patients

  • Display excellent communication and inter-personal skills

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Master of Medicine in Bariatric Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

  • Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC.

  • Valid Practice License.

  • Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • At least one year of working experience as a Bariatric Surgeon in a busy
    hospital.
