About The Team

With plans to grow into the largest forestry company on the continent, Technology Development is central to the operations and strategy at Komaza. We are building a powerful technology platform that uses farmer, tree, and mapping data to plant more trees faster, with more farmers, to better outcomes.

In this year's alpha launch, our new mobile app increased the Komaza farmer base by 50%, and we're expecting to double again next year. As a small development team, we operate like a startup. We're growing the team to build the future of tech at Komaza, and the future of fractional forestry.

About The Role

Leading the engineering team, you will oversee the building, delivery, and operations of top-shelf operations and mobile software that facilitates business activities and data collection at every stage of the value chain from the nursery to the sawmill.

Komaza’s workforce light and operationally complex approach requires an experienced leader that brings together the best practices and frameworks for creating a scalable technology platform.

This role is great for a hands-on leader who enjoys collaborating with operations, data science, and IT, in building intelligent, user-centric software.

This role is presently remote, however team members can work in either Seattle or the Bay Area.

What You Will Do

Build and lead a motivated, inclusive, and productive engineering team, with a focus on coaching, expanding the collective knowledge base, and sharing best practices.

Oversee the operation and expansion of Komaza’s core in-house technology platforms including Kwingu (Field Operations), Harvest,

and Processing Data Architectures.

Help co-develop new modules in areas Komaza’s future interests including, remote sensing, forestry enumeration, and carbon monitoring.

Work with operations, executive, and technology teams to develop a long-term vision and annual product roadmap for our smallholder forestry platform.

Partner with IT, Data Science, and Finance to create data-driven platforms and the building of Komaza's technology infrastructure, QA, and Data Governance standards.

Oversee partnership with offshore (contractor) development team and ensure the caliber of deliverables.

What You Have

5+ years total experience in technology development; 2+ years experience in management where you've built and coached inclusive teams in a distributed environment.

Led in an Agile setting; you can inform the way we structure iterative releases, applying technology to build with collaboration and efficiency (Jira, Trello, Asana, Lucid Chart); being Scrum certified is a feature.

Up-to-date on Javascript and other front-end technology.
