KSPCA’s mandate is to promote, foster and advocate for humane treatment of all Animals in all situations.

KSPCA runs a team of inspectors and animal care staff in three locations; Nairobi, Naivasha and Mombasa. Each location has a shelter where a number of cats, dogs, donkeys and other animals are cared for as KSPCA staff try to rehome them with members of the general public.

KSPCA is run entirely on donations from the public and runs a number of social media campaigns and events. .

Job Responsibilities

  • To lead the application of KSPCA’s quality of life assessment and use of it’s toolkit together with the resident veterinarian and respective kennel staff
  • To work with inspectors on humane slaughter plans, including developing visit plans, forecasting ammunition sales and planning joint visits as and when appropriate
  • To support and participate in vaccination and spay / neuter campaigns set up by KSPCA and / or it’s partner organisations
  • To develop printable tools for new pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care
  • To undertake random follow up house visits on animals rehomed
  • To identify and to respond to urgent animal welfare issues arising at KSPCA and in the local community;
  • To promote responsible pet
    ownership in the wider community and assist in promoting community animal care initiatives at planned events
  • To promote KSPCA’s neutering programme ensuring that as many animals as possible in the community are neutered;

    Job Qualifications
  • Animal Health degree or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of proven hands-on animal handling experience especially dogs and cats
  • Good knowledge/understanding of animal welfare issues/law
  • Excellent and courteous verbal English
  • Public speaking experience
  • Ability to work well in a pressured and emotive environment
  • Ability to quickly and effectively assess an animal welfare situation
  • Calm and confident handling animals
  • Good IT skills, intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Professional, caring and non-judgmental
