Position - Law Clerk

Number of Posts - 14 posts
Terms of Service - Contract (3 years renewable subject to performance).Entry at Kshs 180,000 up to a maximum of Ksks 300, 000 per month
Work Station - Supreme Court of Kenya, Nairobi
Requirements
For appointment to this post, a candidates must have:
1. A Law Degree from a recognized university (a post graduate degree in law is an added advantage),
2. A Diploma from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal Education,
3. Admission to the Roll of Advocates with at least five (5) years post admission experience or five (5) years of extensive legal research in a relevant legal field,
4. Proficiency in computer applications,
5. A current practicing certificate for those in private practice.
6. Must possess the qualifications set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will perform the following functions:
1. Examining pleadings and fully apprehending their tenor and effect;
2. Examining the detailed content of the facts and decisions of the Courts below;
3. Taking stock of the full tenor and effect of the submissions made in the Supreme Court and the Courts below;
4. Bringing together all relevant authorities - those emanating from counsel and, any other relevant material;
5. Conducting extensive legal research and writing for the respective Judges of the Supreme Court;
6. Drafting bench memoranda and well-researched opinions on various legal issues;
7. Assisting the Judges of the Supreme Court to manage their respective dockets;
8. Preparing pre-trial and post trial media summaries; and
9. Performing all other duties as instructed by the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice or Judge of the Supreme Court respectively.

(c) Applicant’s recent coloured passport size photographs,
(d) Three (3) samples of any professional writings, including but not limited to judgments, advocacy submissions in courts, scholarly writings or any legal publications that the applicant has authored,
(e) Declaration of income and liabilities as at the time of making the application, using the prescribed forms “The Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities Form JSC 2b” which can be downloaded from the Judiciary website – www.judiciary.go.ke.
(f) Certified copies of testimonials, professional certificates and academic transcripts.
(g) Applicants MUST also submit copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies:-
• Kenya Revenue Authority,
• Higher Education Loans Board,
• Law Society of Kenya,
• Directorate of Criminal Investigation,
• Advocates Complaints Commission,
• Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and
• A recognised Credit Reference Bureau.
(2) Applicants are also required to forward one (1) hard copy of the completed Employment Application Form JSC 2 for non-public officers or JSC 2A for public officers which can be downloaded from www.judiciary.go.ke (downloads) and to attach all the documents cited in item No. 1 (a to g)above.
