Kenya Human Rights Commission Jobs

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is a premier and flagship non-governmental human rights and governance institution in Africa that was founded in 1992 with a mandate of enhancing human rights centred governance at all levels.

Its founders and staff are among the foremost leaders and activists in struggles for human rights and democratic reforms in Kenya and beyond.

The KHRC conducts and provides evidence-based research and analysis on human rights in Kenya, advocates for the full realization of all rights and works with community-based networks across the country to help them organize and mobilize for the attainment of these rights.

The KHRC is seeking young graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of Human Rights.

The successful interns will be spread across our programme and institutional support areas for a period of six (6) months.

At present internship applications are requested in the following programme areas:

1. KHRC Legal Affairs Intern Vacancy in Kenya

1 Position

Successful intern will be reporting to the Program Advisor, Legal Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the above position should possess the following:

Applicant should have graduated or has finalised 4th year course work and is awaiting graduation, to graduate with a minimum degree in Law.

Applicant should have between 3 months and 1 year experience working with international, labour, family, human rights and/or environmental law

Applicants with a Law degree should not be currently admitted to Kenya School of Law or if admitted should have successfully completed pupillage and is awaiting admission to the bar.

Ability to draft legal pleadings, legal reports and attend court hearings

Knowledge, relevant practice and understanding of the respective laws and regulations will be an added advantage

Ability and knowledge to handle legal aid cases and clients

Should have a valid certificate of good conduct

Excellent in written and spoken English

Excellent Communication, Interpersonal, and Research Skills

2. KHRC Information Technology Intern Vacancy in Kenya

1 Position

Successful intern will be reporting to the Information Technology Assistant.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the above position should possess the following:

Minimum university degree in Information Technology

Have between 3 months to 1 year work exposure in an IT related field

Excellent in written and spoken English & Swahili

A valid certificate of good conduct

Basic Networking skills

Experience in Microsoft Server 2003 & 2008

Microsoft Office 2010 Suite

Microsoft Windows Operating Systems

Exposure to help desk operations

Trouble shooting skills

3. KHRC Political Pluralism & Diversity Intern Vacancy in Kenya

The KHRC is seeking young graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of Human Rights.

1 Position

Successful applicant will be reporting to the Program Advisor – Political Pluralism & Diversity

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the above position should possess the following:

Applicant should have graduated or has finalised 4th year course work and is awaiting graduation, to graduate with a minimum degree in Law, Arts, Political Science or International Relations.

Applicants with a Law degree should not be currently admitted to Kenya School of Law or if admitted should have successfully completed pupillage and is awaiting admission to the bar.

Between 3 months to 1 year demonstrable experience in issues related to identity and inclusion (women’s rights, ethnicity, minority rights, refugee rights LGBTI rights, political participation, and non-discrimination)

Demonstrable interest in human rights work including in working on emergent human rights issues in Kenya.

Should possess a valid certificate of good conduct
