Senior Electrical Engineer Job in Mombasa Kenya[Position: Senior Electrical Engineer
[Location: Mombasa
Job Description: Company wide provision of engineering and operational support to maintain and improve the continuous operational availability of data centers, in order to minimize (business critical) downtime.
Research, design, review efficiency of technical improvements; project support for data center design and construction works and training of local data center staff in Mombasa.
Technical and operational auditing and testing of the data center and data center staff. Development and maintenance of best practice standards and know-how.
As an acknowledged expert operating from MBA1 (Mombasa data center) gives advice and supports the company across Kenya, in order to build and maintain outstanding data centers, in terms of stability (minimize downtime) energy efficiency, cost effectiveness, security and state of the art design.
Responsibilities:Responsible for developing high level design of reliable power systems or cooling systems as applicable to his field of expertise.
Supports with preparing data center facility descriptions
Responsible for reviewing contract documents, e.g. construction contracts, drawings, studies, method statements, commissioning manual and procedures.
Able to participate in technical change management, e.g. review detailed method statements prepared by local operations staff and recommend improvements.
Provide commissioning support to junior staff
Responsible for investigation, analysis and identification of the root cause of technical incidents
Regularly review operations and provide training within the data center
Equipment maintenance in data center: (Senior) Operates on managerial level in crisis situations with significant business impact, takes the lead of data center operations in order to control and solve technical and operational problems
Change management: Reviews change requests and method statements for approval by Head of Operations to ensure integrity of data center installations and to prevent business risk to customers
Provision of sales support: Develops technical solutions, as a technical expert, to meet customer requirements
Undertake research and provides high level designs for new data centers: Assesses potential data center locations and provides expert advice on the suitability of a location proposed for the development into a data center
Data center budgeting: Participate in preparation of CAPEX budget for data center expansion, upgrades and new builds
Project support data centers in construction: Reviews, comments and approves on key contractual documents, e.g. equipment specifications, engineering calculations, equipment settings, commissioning plan and commissioning scripts
Review and update Design and Engineering Requirements (DER): Periodically reviews and updates DER in response to field experience and technical development
Ensure data center operates
with maximum efficiency: Delivers on PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) improvement program, taking into consideration efficiency and cost- savings, without compromising on safety and reliability within data centers
Manage procurement of products: Assesses data center needs for local equipment and obtains CAPEX approval as and when required, ensuring sign-off by relevant parties
Experience, Knowledge and Expertise:
Essential Knowledge
General
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office computer applications, AutoCad and able to master other computer applications
Knowledge of commissioning practices
Awareness of data center technology best practices
Awareness of civil engineering
(Senior) Electrical Engineer
Expert in his own field of expertise
Knowledge of power system studies: short circuit, protection co-ordination, load flow, voltage
Knowledge of power generation control systems
Knowledge of uninterruptible power systems
Knowledge of power system earthing practice
Knowledge of power system equipment standards
Understanding of requirements of national electrical standards
Working knowledge of data center climate control systems
Working knowledge of other discipline applicable to data centers
Shares experience and knowledge with colleagues
Able to solve emergencies with creative temporary solutions
Able to quickly judge the merits of proposals from engineering contractors

Qualifications
Master or BSc (Hon) degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent, with working knowledge in electrical engineering (Marine Engineering is plus)
15-20 years’ experience in electrical or mechanical engineering of which at least 7 years’ experience in a project or operational environment (Senior)
Fluent in English, both writing and orally
Proven ability to analyse and solve complex problems
Previous experience in international organizations is an advantage
