Job Purpose:
To provide technical support to research teams in the setup of molecular laboratory experiments, analysis of samples/data and recording of applied processes and procedures.

Reports to:
Lab Manager /Line Manager/Principal Investigator.
Direct Reports:
None
Indirect Reports:
None
Key Responsibilities:
Nucleic acid extractions from various sample types such as blood, stool, CSF etc.
Processing TaqMan Array cards (TAC) for detection and identification of multiple pathogens
Analysis and interpretation of TAC PCR runs.
Prepare, interpret, transmit results to the relevant databases and prepare reports as may be required.
Conduct experiments, interpret and document results using routine and basic laboratory procedures involving molecular techniques and use of laboratory instruments.
Standardise, calibrate and carry out preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting on laboratory equipment and instrument.
Proper sample reception, processing, archiving, retrieval and documentation in line with LIMS and other relevant procedures
Development and review of SOPs.
Participate in various QAQC, EQA, IQC and regulatory agency activities within the assigned section, including developing and documenting QC monitors.
Provide technical advice to researchers in the design of experiments.
Set up laboratory equipment and experiments and guide researchers on use of laboratory equipment.
Prepare and collate results, update relevant databases and prepare reports as may be required.
Monitor lab resources and inform relevant staff on the replenishment.
Comply with laboratory health and safety procedures, proper waste management and disposal in line within institutional and other regulatory guidelines.
Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board with latest practice licence.
At least 1year experience in molecular diagnostics in a research laboratory Molecular techniques.
Knowledge and understanding of GCLPs and regulatory/ accreditation agency requirements.
Knowledge of laboratory
Health and Safety practices.
Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Competencies:
Understanding of various molecular diagnostic techniques including TAC man array / PCR.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to prioritize, organize and plan work to meet changing research needs.
Confidentiality and integrity
Knowledge and understanding of GCLP and research ethics
Team work and ability to work in a multi-cultural setting
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
