QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Biological Sciences, Public health or related field in health sciences from a recognized university
Minimum of 3- years of experience in clinical or public health research
Proficiency in the use of microsoft
Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
Desired Skills, Competences & Abilities
Background knowledge and skills in clinical and/or mortality setting
Planning and reporting skills
Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken.
Be interested and willing to work in a mortality and antenatal research study
Good interpersonal communication skills
Strong leadership and excellent organizational skills
Ability to withstand postmortem procedures
Ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy to bereaved family members
Ability to work in a complex multidisciplinary group, especially in MOH set-up
Ability to work with minimal supervision and have a high standard for research ethics
Experience with collection of high dimensional longitudinal data
Responsibilities
Develop scientific research proposals to address identified research gaps
Develop project budgets and procurement plans on the basis of on-going research projects
Assist in the implementation of research projects and/or supervising designated aspects of the work
Develop standard operating procedures and work instructions to standardize study activities and ensure compliance with Good clinical practice
Supervise field personnel in project teams to ensure adherence to SOPs, facilitate
Analyse and prepare reports for conference presentation and publications for peer review and knowledge
Develop research participant/patient standard operating procedures (SOPS) through consultation with the research team
Collection of high dimensional longitudinal clinical data
Developing Program reports;
Conducting detailed clinical data abstraction from the
medical records of enrolled cases to a web based system or other
Present clinical data to consultants
Support the process of study sensitization/feedback to the communities, health facilities, MOH leadership and other partners
Enroll and follow-up study participants
Maintain strict confidentiality and participants’ privacy
Ensure high quality accurate data collection and recording of confidential clinical data
Develop and reviews study Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by immediate supervisor
Terms of Employment
Employment is a one (1) year renewable contract with probation period for the first 3 months.
Salary is negotiable within the appropriate KEMRI salary scale depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
