KEMRI Research Scientist (Qualitative) Jobs in Kenya
Key Responsibilities: Organize data collection (recruiting participants, gaining consent, arranging interviews, training community members).
Liaise with relevant stakeholders in the research sites (community representatives, government representatives, policy makers, traditional authority representatives, academics NGOs, faith leaders and others as required)
Responsible for gathering qualitative data through interviews, focus group discussions, and non-participant observation.
Arranging and completing transcription and translation of qualitative data
Coding and analysing the transcribed data (using Nvivo software for which training will be provided) and share the analysis with the international team.
Responsible for the secure storage and management of the data gathered and transcribed, in accordance with the data protection policy.
Participate in team meetings and supervision, as well as peer learning sessions organized by the PI and the study team.
Vacancy Requirements:
1 Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (e.g. public health, psychology, social policy, economics, politics, sociology, economic and social history, biology, social work, anthropology, development studies, or other disciplines) Mandatory
2 Conducting qualitative research including focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, or observation work will be an added advantage Added Advantage
3 Training in transcribing and translating qualitative data Mandatory
4 Evidence of ability to
establish rapport with members of the community Mandatory
5 Strong IT skills, and able to work collaboratively online with colleagues in other settings Mandatory
6 Good administrative and project management skills Mandatory
7 Excellent oral and written communication skills Mandatory
8 Good IT and computing skills, to support online working with colleagues in other research sites Mandatory
9 Time management skills including ability to prioritize workload Mandatory
10 Trustworthy and reliable Mandatory
11 Experience of recruiting participants into qualitative research studies (familiarity with issues of ethics and informed consent) will be ab added advantage. Added Advantage
