KCA University seeks to recruit a candidate from among existing staff to fill the following
position;
Librarian – Circulation and Reference
Purpose
The job holder will be responsible for overseeing entire circulation activity, including the issuing, return and record keeping procedures of the library as well as to assist, advise, and instruct users in accessing all forms of recorded knowledge.
Primary Responsibilities
Determine the situational context of the individual information needs of users when interacting with each user in person or through another communication channel.
Analyze information sources recommended to users in the context of the attractiveness, interests, and content level for each user.
Suggest specific works that relate to what the user said is important.
Utilize the Behavioral Standards for Reference Librarians on Approachability, Interest, and Listening/Inquiring when providing reference service in a traditional in-person service setting.
Engage users in discussions about experiences related to their information needs and communicate interest in every user's experiences.
Respects the right of users to determine the direction of their research by empowering them to pursue their own preferences
Creating and update information resources - both electronic and printed.
Assisting researchers with literature searches using databases, printed resources and the internet
Entering cataloguing data into the library's automated system; classification of library resources
Circulation of Library resources to authorized library users as well as maintaining circulation files, records and statistics.
Participation in stocktaking and control and contributing to the long-term plans of
the University library.
Prepares and provides statistical and other reports to library administration as scheduled or requested.
Provides information literacy instruction
Assists in the implementation, management and development of the reference plan of the library.
Position Requirements
Academic Qualifications
Degree in library and information Science from a reputable University
Certification in computer skills
A minimum of 3 Years’ relevant eexperience in a University Library
Work Experience:
Knowledge in Library Management, automation, and E-Library services.
Information Literacy competence.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
