Kampala International University Director of Research Jobs in Uganda

KIU is a vast regional institution with two campuses (Main and Western) in Uganda and a sister University, KIUT in Dares Salaam, Tanzania.

Responsibilities;

The main duties and responsibilities of the employee shall include the following;

Take overall responsibility for developing and administering policy associated with research training at KIU to ensure
that appropriate strategies are in place for recruitment of postgraduate research students, and that the University’s postgraduate research training programmes have a high
profile nationally and internationally.

Provide advice on research higher degree matters.

Ensure that appropriate levels of training are provided to academic staff and/or supervisors of research higher degree
students.

Work with the Deputy Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs on broad strategic policy and resource issues.

Attend occasional intervention meetings with research higher degree students and academic/research staff of the
University as requested by the co-ordinator of Graduate Research Studies.

Check thesis examiners nominated by Heads of Department and supervisors and provide advice to their respective Heads of School/Department.

Be responsible for putting forward cases of promotion of
the Senior Academic Staff in the College.

Check revised thesis/dissertations in conjunction with primary supervisors and if necessary senior members of staff with the required disciplinary expertise in multidisciplinary School/Department, and advise Heads of School(s) about signing off on such thesis/dissertations.

Advise the College for Higher Degrees & Research when candidates have completed the requirements for research higher degrees.

Oversee maintenance of a database of

all research students, their personal files, ledgers and examination
results, etc within their School/Department.

Ensure that a College Academic Board is constituted; its constitution and procedures are approved by Senate and acceptable to the staff; the Board meets at least once in
each semester, and its minutes are forwarded to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs.

Attend Senate Meetings and University Management Meetings (or nominate another person to do so in your absence); and disseminate information and/or take action
in accordance with decisions arising from such meetings as appropriate.

Perform any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as assigned or delegated by the Vice
Chancellor.

Requirements

Must have a PhD as a minimum qualification.

Must have an established academic and research profile.

At least 5 years’ experience in an academic setting.

Must be able to work in an environment of a fast growing university and oversee the development and delivery of
research based projects.
