JSI is currently recruiting for an Anthropologist/Behavior Change/Marketing Specialist for a position with the USAID-funded Uganda Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services Project.
The purpose of the project will be to increase the effective use of sustainable health services, including maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), HIV/AIDS, family planning (FP), tuberculosis (TB), malaria and nutrition in the Lango Region of Northern Uganda. This will be a full-time position based in Lira, Uganda.
The Anthropologist/Behavior Change/Marketing Specialist will work principally to develop and implement social and behavior change strategies, provide technical guidance to grantees, and ensure a conducive and collaborative working relationship within the team and consortium partners.
S/he will work to functionalize the social and behavior change strategy and collaborate with the community team to roll out the community engagement strategy for the RNL project.
S/he will supervise the SBC Officers, Community and Youth Mobilizations Advisor, Digital Health Advisor and Gender Officer.
The Anthropologist/Behavior Change/Marketing Specialist will report to the Chief of Party (COP).
Responsibilities
Provide evidence-based, theory-driven, and client-centered support in the development and implementation of an integrated SBC strategy to support: HIV, TB, malaria, maternal, newborn, and child health, nutrition, reproductive health and family planning, and gender.
Contribute to the district-led implementation and system strengthening strategy to promote institutional integration of SBC.
Support the development of tools and job aids (training modules and conversation cards) to promote interpersonal communication and promotion of behavior change among the
community agents and health providers.
Support development and rollout of gender transformational approaches for GBV prevention, case identification, and post-violence care.
Responses included: IPC for providers and CHWs,
community engagement, capacity strengthening of gatekeepers, addressing gender norms in the community.
Provide support to faith-based institutions, cultural institutions & CSOs in developing and implementing norm change intervention to address teenage pregnancies and early marriages.
Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Director to develop a community health monitoring, evaluation and learning plan and oversee the implementation of the plan.
Contribute to the identification and scaling-up of best practices in behavior change interventions.
Participate in the documentation and dissemination of project activities.
Provide strategic, technical, and managerial guidance to the project.
Oversee activities that address key demand side behaviors related to expanding health options.
Provide technical and managerial leadership in the development and rapid implementation of a program-wide BCC strategy, assuring the effective integration of the behavior change component into all aspects of the technical component of the project.
Provide technical support and guidance to project staff and partners at all levels, on established good practices as well as cutting-edge ideas, tools and approaches for behavior change interventions.
Contribute to the identification and scaling-up of best practices in behavior change interventions.
Participate in the documentation and dissemination of project activities; and
Supervise SBCC unit staff.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Anthropology, Psychology, Communication, Marketing, Business,
Economics, or related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of additional relevant experience (in addition to the below requirement of 5 years);
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in generating innovative and effective demand generation or marketing solutions, preferably in Uganda;
Experience working in public health a plus, but not required;
Knowledge and implementation of behavior change theory;
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, supervisory, communications and mentoring skills.
