Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe ; is a German Non-Governmental Organization implementing interventions in Emergency Response and Preparedness, Health and Livelihoods in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe, with its headquarters in Berlin, Germany. In Kenya, the organization has been active since 2005 supporting local partners in various fields such as health care, disaster risk reduction, nutrition, food security and livelihoods.
In May 2011, Johanniter opened an office in Nairobi in order to enhance its Kenya programme and strengthen the cooperation with its local partners. Currently, together with our Kenyan partner organizations, Johanniter is implementing several projects throughout the country, including disaster relief and disaster preparedness activities and a livelihood project in Turkana.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Overall job purpose:The Proposal Writer and Resource Mobilization Officer will work closely with the Programmes Team, the Head of Mission and the Regional Funding Coordinator to support the Country Office team and implementing partners in new business development processes and establishment of new partnerships to ensure the country has a diversified funding portfolio.
Tasks:Strategy and Vision:1. Actively supports the values of Johanniter and shapes work accordingly.
2. Contributes to the implementation of the global and regional strategy of Johanniter International Assistance.
3.Support the implementation of the Country funding strategy.
Coordination, donor engagement and visibility:1. Participates in the global and regional level funding meetings to share lessons and new developments.
2. Works with the Country Office team and Regional Communications Coordinator to support the development of country programme briefs and other visibility and marketing materials for sharing with new potential donors and partners.
Resource Mobilization:1. Undertakes mapping of relevant donors, identifies new donors and communicates with donors, as appropriate.
2. Maintains the Donor Engagement Plan & Funding Tracker, updating the country office team on a 2 weekly basis.
3. Identifies new funding opportunities and shares the opportunity briefs with relevant staff.
4. Arranges Go/No Go meetings to discuss new funding opportunities within a maximum of 3 days after a new opportunity is shared.
5. Prepares the Proposal Development Plan and a simplified timeline of proposal development to share with all staff.
6. Maintains the Proposal Pipeline tool for tracking all proposals and opportunities.
Coordinates with the Country Office team and implementing partners in the development of concept notes and proposals.
7. Provides templates, guidance and feedback to the Country Office team and implementing partners.
8. Coordinates the reviews by the technical advisors.
9. Ensures that everyone adheres to the agreed upon timelines.
10. Ensures all documents are uploaded to the server/4JUH
New Business Development: Ensures that Grant Opening and Grant Closing meetings are conducted, bringing together all relevant staff to go over financial, procurement and reporting needs.
Familiarizes oneself with the varying sub-grant partnerships across programs and monitors the relationship for the duration of the grant, relaying issues to relevant staff when necessary.
Identifies capacity-strengthening needs of partners related to new business development.
Partnerships:
Undertakes mapping of new local implementing partners, international NGOs, research and private institutions for partnerships and collaboration including consortiums.
Coordinates the Country Team to conduct partner assessments,
when necessary.
With the support of the Programme Manager, ensures JIA has all the required documents, which form part of partnership assessments.
Together with the PM and Finance Coordinator, ensure that the partner contract documents are prepared, shared, signed and uploaded to the server/4JUH.
Contributes to the review of MoUs with potential implementing partners and counties.
Contributes to the development of Johanniter Partnership Guidelines.
Context Analysis:
Maintains up to date knowledge about the humanitarian situation in the country, identifying gaps and needs and alerting the Programme Manager.
Safeguarding:
Ensure safeguarding risk assessments are conducted for each project.
Put in place mitigation measures to identify risks for a programme / project.
Ensure safeguarding is embedded in the proposal development process.
Propose key activities to be considered for each project.
Propose budgets and resources to be earmarked for safeguarding.
Promote a culture of safeguarding within the organization and ensuring people we work with are not exposed to harm or abuse.
Report any safeguarding concerns using the channels that have been put in place.
Ongoing Education:
Participates in webinars related to proposal writing, new donors, thematic areas and any other relevant topics.
Undertakes trainings on specific donors e.g. ECHO, EU, USAID, GAC etc.
Learns about Partnership approaches used in other organizations.
Researches the strategic programmatic areas of Johanniter to remain updated and to have the ability to propose new, innovative ideas for proposal development.
Person Specification:
Professional Qualifications and Experience:
University Degree in Project Management or other relevant field.
Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience with an international or national NGO.
Demonstrated experience in successful proposal writing.
Experience working with national implementing partners is an added advantage.
Certificate course(s) in proposal development and/or grants management is an added advantage.
Experience with a broad range of international and local donors.
Strong written and spoken professional English required.
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must.
Writing, editing, and proofreading experience is required.
Willingness to work independently and in a team environment.
