ISO may refer to any of the following:

When talking about a camera, ISO is a setting that adjusts how sensitive the camera is to light. The ISO setting can alter the brightness of a picture and affect how grainy or noisy the picture appears. ISO settings can range from ISO 50 to ISO 25600. The lower the ISO value, the less sensitive the camera is to light.

Short for International Organization for Standardization, ISO is derived from the Greek "isos," meaning equal, which is the root of the prefix iso-. ISO is an organization that works with companies and institutes from around the world to help develop product and technology standards. Having an organization like ISO is important because it helps standardize how something works globally and makes sure products are compatible and safe for the consumer. An ISO standard has the ISO prefix followed by a series of numbers. For example, ISO 9660 was the first standard for CD-ROM media.

ISO history

Founded in 1947, the ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 140 countries. The first ISO standard was published in 1951 with the title, Standard reference temperature for industrial length measurement.
