Under the direct supervision of the IRC Ebola Preparedness & Response Coordinator and in coordination with the Makerere University School of Public Health study team, the Research Manager will be primarily responsible for coordinating, supporting, and supervising a research study of the impact of community engagement on infection prevention and control measures for the prevention of the spread of Ebola.
This will entail overseeing the data collection, including focus group discussions with community members, interviews with health facility staff, facility assessments, and patient surveys; as well as reporting on research achievements at various stages of the study.
The Research Manager will be expected to support data entry and carry out quality of care and data quality checks for completeness and accuracy.
Responsibilities
Project Implementation
Organize and support facilitation of focus group discussions with community members and key informant interviews with health facility staff using semi-structured interview guides
Assure qualitative data quality and alignment with research objectives
Responsible for management of qualitative and quantitative data
Support implementation of community engagement activities, in coordination with the Makerere University team and IRC staff
Support recruitment and training of data collectors for patient survey administration
Support IRC staff with data entry and analysis of weekly facility IPC assessments
In collaboration with the IRC Health Research & Evaluation Officer, analyse data as it is collected to ensure that tools are adapted as necessary to align with research objectives and ensure data quality
Monitor equipment and stationery used in the study and provide updates on stock status accordingly
Communication
On data collection days, provide daily updates on progress as well as challenges experienced and measures put in place to ensure successful implementation of the protocol
Report to the Principal Investigators any concerns or negative events that occur related to the study in a prompt and transparent manner
Maintain a professional relationship with health facility staff to
effectively communicate the study protocol procedures and IPC best practices where appropriate
Attend scheduled research team meetings and calls
Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Reporting and Coordination
Work with the research team and local community leaders to acquire community-level consent and participation at the start of the study
Coordination and implementation of the study protocol
In collaboration with the research team, schedule and conduct meetings with MoH Officials and other implementing partners on study protocol, progress, and interim results
Represent IRC in Ebola response coordination meetings to provide updates on the progress and share lessons learnt and best practices
Requirements
Master’s Degree in Public Health or related degree from a recognized University
Demonstrated research experience
Qualitative data collection experience (including facilitation of focus group discussions and interviews)
Experience conducing trainings for data collectors
Experience in data collection entry including quality checks for both quantitative and qualitative data
Experience of working in networks and building strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders
Must be a strong team player and result oriented with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Experience with infection prevention and control at health facilities or epidemic response desirable
Understanding of community engagement is desirable
Fluent in written and spoken English required, Runyoro/Rutooro/Rukonzo are local languages preferred
