Investment Associate Job in Nairobi
Our client is a fund manager that focuses on making direct investments in entrepreneurial driven businesses with potential for substantial growth in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
They are seeking to recruit a highly talented professional to fill in the following position in their Nairobi office: Investment Associate
This position will be responsible for deal sourcing across specific target sectors which will include potential investments, acquisitions, analysis of potential exit opportunities, and the monitoring and management of current portfolio.
Principal Accountabilities:
Deal Sourcing
Participate in all aspects of the transaction process including deal sourcing, industry research, financial modelling and valuation, preparing investment memoranda, due diligence and ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies
Provide expert knowledge in pipeline/deal flow management by geography (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda)
Deal Judgment
Identify and evaluate key risks and mitigants
Assessing sponsors, strategic opportunity – market, competitive landscape and financial state of affairs
Deal Structuring
Conduct deal structuring; Financial and Legal
Involved in meeting with advisors and sponsors and influencers
Conduct financial modelling and analysis including: designing models; identifying key drivers and building in sensitivities as appropriate; strong understanding of different valuation methodologies; and ability to identify relative defects and effectiveness of each valuation tool
Deal Making
Managing due diligence process
Building financial models
Negotiating and managing contracts
Documenting process; preparing Investment Proposal and Investment Memo
Portfolio Value Add
Participate in and contribute to strategic thinking in and around company
Introduce
company to personal contacts and contacts of the firm
Communicate with investment bankers
Add Value to the Firm
Collaborate with support staff and peers in enhancing, implementing and enforcing internal policies, procedures and best practice processes
Participate in (semi-) annual review process; in developing and enhancing operational model and organisational setup
Contribute to development and creation of human capital of firm: contribute to talent hunt, train and teach junior staff and peers.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting, Finance or a business related course
At least 3 years’ experience in an investment management environment
Professional qualification such as CFA, CPA
Ability to manage in a reliable way multiple tasks in a high-volume environment
Good analytical and quantitative reasoning
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, with exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
