Position within the OrganizationThe Gender & Social Inclusion Advisor is member of the Programme Management Unit which manages and implements Interpeace’s active and ongoing programmes around the world.
The Gender & Social Inclusion Advisor reports to Senior Stabilisation Advisor and will explicitly work on the anticipated CSSF funded RESET project aimed at Building Resilience Against Violence Extremism in Kenya – Somalia borderlands.
The SSA will be a member of the project coordination team and will provide technical advisory support to the RESET project to ensure that all activities, including advocacy and policy engagement, promotes gender equality and social inclusion and that this can be measured in the overall project impact.
RESET ProgrammeRESET is a UK Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) funded programme which aims to foster individual, community and institutional resilience to counter violent extremism in the Kenya – Somalia border area.
It will have programme activities in the four border counties of Lamu, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera in Kenya as well as in the Gedo and Lower Juba regions in Somalia.
Primarily, the RESET programme is expected to deliver on the following outputs:
Strengthen understanding of conflict, structures and actors to shape effective policy and programming.
Strengthen formal and informal mechanisms aiming to build resilience along the Kenya – Somalia border.
Address grievances and mitigate against drivers of instability and extremism.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership and technical guidance on Gender and Social Inclusion to the RESET project team.
Take lead on reviewing institutional gender strategy/policy to align it with RESET project realities, including incorporating trauma, conflict, and Somali cultural-sensitive lenses.
Work together with DMEL Advisor and partner organisations to design, design, monitor and report on Gender and Social Inclusion policies across all activities and practices of the project, including in defining indicators, setting targets for all indicators, and planning of all necessary data collection and analysis.
Contribute to collaborative, learning and adaptive approach throughout the entire project, (Interpeace and its local partners) including designing program learning plan, ensure that findings from all monitoring, assessment and survey activities are fed back into the programme and disseminated to stakeholders and partners for continuous program adjustments.
Lead in the promotion of Gender and Inclusion good practices and generating learnings, quality internal and external evidence, and practices within Interpeace Rwanda.
Take lead on capacity building initiatives for staff of RESET programme and its local partners on Gender and Inclusion, including development of training tools and methods.
Qualifications
A Master or bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Gender studies, conflict management, social sciences, or related fields);
7-10 years of relevant working experience, of which at
least 3 years should be at field level and 2 in managerial/advisory role.
Deep knowledge and demonstrated experience working on gender and conflict, women, peace and security and youth, peace and security. Experience in working with people with disabilities and minority groups is an added advantage.
Clear understanding of current issues and trends in Gender and
Demonstrable experience in programme design, planning and implementation at all levels, including advisory to data collection and baseline surveys from gender and inclusion perspectives.
Experience of project/programme management, including advisory to national level and community-based organizations in Kenya and/or Somalia.
Experience in designing and assessing programme indicators & measuring impact from gender and inclusion perspectives.
Analytical thinking and ability to plan strategically from an organizational perspective. Confident and articulate in systems thinking and working with theories of change
Experience working closely with governmental/local authorities and other (inter)national NGOs.
Ability to write clear and analytical reports on programme outcomes and impact.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and in written.
Fluent in English, Swahili and preferably Somali- both verbal and written.
A deep knowledge of Somali culture is an added advantage.

Excellent ability to interact with people respectfully and with tact
Strong writing and communications skills in English and French is required. Knowledge of local language is an advantage.
