General Summary:

Internews Europe is seeking a Project coordinator to be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for an EU funded project entitled “Increasing conflict sensitivity and inclusion in media coverage in Ethiopia”. The program will focus on supporting journalists to objectively report on conflict, and include community voices including those of women, persons with disability and the marginalised populations.

The programme will run for 12 months and will be implemented by Internews Europe (Internews) and BBC Media action as lead organization.

General Function:

The Project Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the project and assumes overall responsibility for the project delivery and risk management. He/she will be based in Ethiopia and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of project implementation, including financial and programmatic management, coordinating project activities and ensuring timely and high-quality completion of project deliverables and expected results.

He/she coordinates with BBC Media Action, other stakeholders to ensure that Internews leverages other resources, avoids duplication and complements other media development initiatives. Aside Ethiopia project director, the project coordinator will also be responsible for establishing strong partnerships and dialogue with the appropriate donor representatives and stakeholders in Ethiopia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following:

Provide general oversight of the program, including program and partner management, strategic vision, budget management, quality and timing of deliverables, and coordination with partners.

Serve with the project director as the main point of contact for the project in Ethiopia.

Manage project staff and consultants that provide training and mentoring services to journalists and media outlets.

Coordinate all the backstopping and technical support to journalists and media beneficiaries’.

Communicate challenges facing the project and articulate the project’s successes in meeting those challenges.

Responsible for

the quality, cost, and timeliness of performance of all work performed under the funding contract.

Responsible for the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Project.

Prepare monthly and quarterly programmatic reports.

Develop and maintain contact with local stakeholders including BBC Media Action.

Ensure solid partnerships and coordination with BBC Media Action.

Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

Qualifications

Required:

5 years of professional experience working as a project manager in the field of Media development, or democracy and governance; OR Relevant professional experience as a journalist and media manager in Ethiopia.

Substantial experience working as a Project Manager managing complex projects; a proactive Program Manager with a strong reputation for developing excellent collaborative working relationships with counterparts, local and international organizations and donors.

A successful track record in supervising, designing, managing, and implementing technical assistance for donor-funded media projects and proven ability to develop and monitor work plans, training plans, and procurement plans.

Demonstrated ability to manage national staff and a team of consultants.

Strong interpersonal skills, necessary to maintain good relations with relevant stakeholders.

Strong writing and reporting skills.

Knowledge of European donor or other European donor compliance rules.

Fluency in English required.
