International Rescue Committee Driver Jobs in Garissa
Under the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer, the Driver is responsible to provide operational support to the programs area of activities and drive staffs, Clients and property in Garissa is not compromised. He/she is responsible for ensuring that IRC vehicles is in good condition and to always drive in a safe manner.
To assist the the SCO in enforcing Transport and Fleet SoP,s, policies and procedures. To conduct Fleet assessment as well as assessment of threats and provision of advice to mitigate risks’/He is responsible of ensuring compliance with Fleet and Transport guidelines and all standards operating procedures and principles as outlined in the IRC Way.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include
The safe transportation of IRC personnel
The safe transportation of IRC materials
The care and maintenance of IRC vehicles and their accessories
Key Competencies
Minimum two years work as a professional driver
No road safety-related fines or convictions Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations
Skills in routine vehicle maintenance and minor repair
Knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) of HF, VHF and satellite communications equipment
Team spirit and problem solving abilities
Able to carry out limited, un-supervised tasks
Drivers must display an attitude and behavior that reflects well on both themselves and the IRC
Expected Deliverables
Strict adherence to the IRC’s vehicle policies and procedures, including the use of seatbelts by all passengers.
Daily and pre-long distance vehicle checks. Accurate upkeep of the vehicle’s log sheet.
Maintaining the vehicle clean, fuelled and mechanically sound.
Inspecting and maintaining all vehicle accessories.
Advising the SCO of pending inspections, insurance renewal or any defects or problems.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Level KCSE education
Valid driving license
Written and spoken English
Able to pass IRC driving test
Driving Training
3 years’ experience in Driving manual transmission vehicles.
Ability to plan activities
Able to work with limited supervision
Computer skills a plus.
Team player
Keen to detail
Proactive and reliable.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience with a humanitarian
organization especially in a refugee set up.
“O”Level or KCSE Certificate
Knowledge in communication, VHF, HF radios and thuraya
Good communication skills.
A certificate of good conduct
Physically fit and in sound health.
Good communication skills and able to work in a team.
Flexible and able to work under pressure, under minimal supervision.
Ability to work closely, professionally and constructive with all others regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, race, tribe, or cultural background
Computer literacy and fluency in Somali Language will be an added advantage
