The International Potato Center (CIP) is looking for dynamic Research Associate – Monitoring and Evaluation with excellent research skills to provide support to the DeSIRA Project.

About the Initiative:

CIP is implementing a project on Climate-smart innovations to improve productivity, profitability, and sustainability of agriculture and food systems in Malawi through multidisciplinary research known as DeSIRA. Objectives of the project is to improve climate change adaptation of agricultural and food systems in Malawi through research and uptake of integrated technological innovations.

The project aims to develop climate-resilient integrated technological innovations, to enhance understanding of the opportunities and constraints for uptake of these innovations by farmers, and to inform policy makers and scaling partners about the potential of these technologies to contribute to climate resilience and sustainability.

One CGIAR science is dedicated to transforming food, land and water systems in a climate crisis, and it is carried out by 13 CGIAR Centers/Alliances in close collaboration with hundreds of partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, development organizations and the private sector.

About the Role

The Research Associate will be responsible to carry out M & E related activities to have a robust M & E framework in place for the DeSIRA project.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop a robust progress monitoring and reporting system for reporting on the indicators defined in the EU DeSIRA project Framework.

  • Work closely with all the project implementing partners on all the aspects of monitoring and evaluation.

  • Develop tools to facilitate data collection by project implementing partners.

  • Provide input and advice related to workplans submitted by partners to ensure that the indicators are in line with the EU M&E framework.

  • Develop and maintain an M&E database for the project.

  • Mentor and train project partners to build capacity on M&E.

  • Contribute to review and planning workshops.

  • Contribute to preparation and monitor implementation of work plans and budgets

  • Ensure gender and youth aspects are adequately captured in work planning and M&E Systems.

  • Contribute to gross margins analysis and farmers technology assessment of climate smart technologies and technology packages developed/introduced by the CGIAR to the FFS.

  • Support the project manager in
    the review of periodic progress reports received from partners and compilation of overall progress reports for the project.

  • Document and collect information on lessons learned, including case studies and special research.

  • Develop data base of community-based seed multipliers across 10 project intervention districts

  • Carry out periodical field checks and triangulate with received information to monitor the progress of the project.

  • Work closely with IFPRI to implement the communication and visibility work plan to promote information sharing on all aspects related to project activities among partners.

  • Support monitoring and evaluation visits by the donor and participate in project evaluations and assessments.

    What are we looking for?

  • MSc. in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Project Management or similar.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working as an M & E Specialist for donor-funded agricultural development projects.

  • M & E system set up and operationalization.

  • Advanced level of MS Office.

  • Advanced knowledge of database work.

  • Advanced statistical research analysis.

  • Scientific papers production and publishing.

  • Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.
