Organisation Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts.

INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO supports more than 1000 NGOs operating in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries and is headquartered in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

INSO South Sudan

Founded in 2018, INSO South Sudan addresses the insecure operating environment all NGOs face in the country.

The platform currently supports 246 NGOs, enhancing safety preparedness and providing support through reports, alerts, training and more. We cover all ten states and three administrative areas in South Sudan with a country office in Juba and field offices in Yambio, Wau, Rumbek, Bentiu, Malakal, and Bor.

Working with INSO South Sudan will provide you with the opportunity to work within a dynamic and growing program alongside a diverse team.

Job Summary

As Training Manager, you will oversee the development and delivery of training courses to assist both national and international NGOs in organizational safety and crisis management, as well as personal risk mitigation and humanitarian access.

You will have a strong background in NGO safety and security, be outgoing, inquisitive and detail oriented and have significant experience designing and facilitating high quality curricula along with impact monitoring. You will have the ability to tailor training to the context.

This position is based in Juba with travel throughout the country and reports to the Country Director.

Major Responsibilities

Implement Training Program

  • Conduct a training needs assessment to identify additional training needs.
  • Plan and organise training sessions.
  • Communicate with INSO partners about training and listen to their needs.
  • Contextualise and facilitate courses:
  • Essentials and Advanced NGO Security Management, Crisis Management, Personal Safety, Humanitarian Negotiations.
  • Review and improve training materials as necessary
  • Design and incorporate monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Contribute to MEAL and donor reporting.

    Lead the Training Team

  • Manage the training team (1 Training Officer + 1 Training Assistant).
  • Coordinate with other INSO teams (logistics, financial) in tandem with senior management.
  • Seek advise and give support to other INSO training teams (15 countries).
  • Assist senior management staff in the day to day running of the country programme.
  • Help manage the public perceptions of INSO’s work to establish and maintain recognition of its mandate for independence, impartiality, and neutrality.
  • Comply
    with INSO service delivery standards and procedures.

    Mandatory Requirements

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Graduate level education in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety practices and principles.
  • Independent drive and ability to manage staff under strict procedures and deadlines.
  • Minimum of 2 years providing training and/or in the humanitarian safety sector at the field level.
  • Experience in design or facilitation of training curriculums (in-class, drills, online).
  • At least 1 year working in conflict affected environments.
  • Familiarity with the philosophy, priorities, and principles of humanitarian NGOs and NGO approaches to security.
  • Ability to excel in a multicultural work environment.

    Desirable

  • Recent experience working in South Sudan, ideally in an NGO safety or NGO training role – and demonstrable understanding of the context.
  • Certified First Aid Instructor and/ or medical background.

    Terms & Conditions

    12-month contract, €4550 per month salary, 4 calendar days annual leave per month and 7 days of R&R every 2 months with a €1250 allowance each R&R cycle, in-country housing provided, global medical insurance (excluding USA) and $200,000 AD&D coverage.
