Job Purpose Summary:
The senior Gender Based Violence Officer is a key team member of International Medical Corps, and will oversee the overall day to day of Gender Based Violence prevention and response interventions, including case management/psychosocial support, community mobilization for Gender Based Violence prevention, capacity building and coordination with other sectors and actors in Melkdida, Kobe refugee camps and Dollo reception centre in Ethiopia.
Under the direct supervision of Gender Based Violence program manager/deputy manager, the Senior Gender Based Violence Officer, based in Melkdida camp, will supervise Gender Based Violence community mobilization officer.
The senior Gender Based Violence officer will provide ongoing supervision, mentoring/coaching for team members to ensure that the goals and objectives of the program are met in a timely and effective manner, that the approach to program implementation is participatory, that team members receive appropriate support and that a positive team spirit is fostered encouraging innovative and quality programming.
Human Resource Management & Capacity Building
Assist in the recruitment and training of Gender Based Violence staff and refugee volunteers;
With support from International Medical Corps HR, conduct staff performance evaluations for all Gender Based Violence staffs in Gambella in a timely manner;
Work with HR to ensure accuracy of all Gender Based Violence program job descriptions for staffs and their responsibilities;
In collaboration with Gender Based Violence program manager, design and monitor capacity building strategies for all Gender Based Violence staffs in Dollo
Ensure staff support and debriefing processes are in place, and that staff safety planning is conducted and regularly updated;
Develop, implement and promote effective team communication techniques and systems, including regular senior staff meetings;
Coordination &
Collaboration
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including ARRA, UNHCR, UNFPA, other partners and community members in all Dollo refugee camps,
Mobilize stakeholders to participate in Gender Based Violence coordination and risks mitigation meetings;
Collaborate with other International Medical Corps sectors and operations personnel to ensure that the program is properly supported and that all project-related operational activities are conducted according to International Medical Corps HR, Logistics, Finance and other policies and procedures;
Work with community structures and partners to develop and maintain appropriate referral pathway to improve assistance for vulnerable women and girls;
In collaboration with the Gender Based Violence program manager, promote and represent the interests of the Gender Based Violence program with regards to all relevant stakeholders;
And any other task as requested by the supervisor
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
MA degree or BA/BSc degree in health, social work ,sociology , psychology ,gender ,legal or other relevant fields from recognized institution
For MA degree 1-2 years of experience in GBV, psychological support, social work, human rights, protection or related areas; and for BA/BSc degree 3-5 years of experience in the above mentioned fields is required.
Strong facilitation skills and experiences in providing trainings and presentation for diverse audience
Positive attitude towards gender equality and strong commitment to support multi-sectoral GBV response interventions.
Previous experience or willingness/readiness to live in a hardship environment /refugee camps.
Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English, Somali language is a plus.
