International Center for Tropical Agriculture Job Vacancies

International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is an international non-profit research-fordevelopment (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).


IITA’s R4D is anchored on the development needs of Sub-Saharan Africa and develops
agricultural solutions with partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and
consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from
agriculture.

CIAT, on behalf of IITA, is seeking to recruit a Technical Assistant for the TAAT Project with with the responsibility of assisting the TAAT Technical Adviser in all areas of operations in Nairobi office. The position is based at IITA Central Africa Hub Coordination Office located in Nairobi,
Kenya and reports to the TAAT Technical Adviser.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with Project Management Unit to assure that Nairobi operations conform to
    established TAAT and IITA protocols.
  • Assist the TAAT Technical Adviser in the production of reports, publications and proposals.
  • Assist in the development and interpretation of data bases related to TAAT findings, and prepare them for inclusion into the Clearinghouse Technology Toolkits.
  • Any other administrative, editorial and data base tasks assigned by the TAAT Technical
    Adviser.

    The candidate shall have the following competencies, skills and experience:

  • BSc in Project Management or a closely related field
  • At least two (2) years of relevant work experience in a closely related field gained in an international organization
  • Advanced computing skills with knowledge of all MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, but also
    participate as a
    team member in accomplishment of duties.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good judgment and a high level of respect for confidentiality.
  • Strong ability to co‐ordinate, prioritize and organize workload; take initiative and work
    under pressure.
  • Highly effective planning, organizational and multi‐tasking skills with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in a multi‐cultural environment.
  • Commitment to IITA’s mission and core values.

    Terms of employment:

    The position is nationally recruited, will be based at IITA Offices in Nairobi, Kenya. The contract will be for two (2) years period, subject to a probation period of three (3) months, renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
