The infectious Diseases institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.
IDI has five operational; areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core; Lab) and Outreach.
The institute is partnering with the Program for Accelerated Tuberculosis Control in Karamoia (PACT-Karamoja) is a five-year USAID funded project (2020
- 2025) that aims to increase TB case detection and treatment success rates through health system strengthening in all districts of North Eastern sub-region of Uganda.
In collaboration with key stakeholders in the region, PACT-Karamoja project will provide technical assistance to districti health teams to deliver high impact and innovative interventions that are in line with current national and global TB guidelines in Karamoia region.
PACT-Karamoja will focu on regional and district structures for the management of drug susceptible TB, drug resistant TB and TB preventive services in the districts oi Abim. Amudat, Kaabong, Karenga, Kotido, Mcroto, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripirit and Napak

General SummaryTo enhance technical and managerial capacity of the TB program at the regional and district levels to effectively guide and manage the implementation of TB control activities..
Responsibilities and Duties Support the regional teams to implement the NSF through developing and adhering to annual District Action Plans which are integrated into the NTLP annual work plan.
Design and lead innovationsto improve districts, health facilities and their sewed communities‘ capacity to deliver
high quality, high impact TB health interventions and services.
Work with Regional structures to identity and address priority technical and programmatic gaps in increasing case notification and treatment success of all forms of TB through project supported interventions.
Work with regional structures to improve uptake and completion of TB preventive therapy within the region.
Develop approaches to improve monitoring and support supervision, in collaboration with the Regional TB/ Leprosy Focal Person
(RTLP) and NTLP central unit.
Build capacity for application of Ql methods to improve TB service delivery processes and outcomes including use of cascade monitoring for TB control.
Work with the M&E and Operations Research teams to document and share learning generated from monthly project performance review and operations research.
Represent the project and contribute towards MoH regional TB, TB/HIV and MDR/XRD TB working groups while maintaining communication with the project leadership
Develop annual, quarterly. monthly project workplans and periodic reports
Supervise project technical staff as required in line with Institutional guidelines
Person Specifications
A Master's Degree in Medicine, Public Health and eight (B) years of professional experience delivering TB or TB/HIV services;
A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively increasing responsibility working for successlul TB technical assistance programs Effective collaboration and networking of community initiatives. .
Experience and expertise in designing and implementing successful facility and community-based integrated health services
Strong oral and written communication skills are required to develop and maintain effective, sustainable working relationships with national and international working partners and to accomplish reporting requirements.
Ability to analyze. understand and discuss new program design, management and implementation approaches is required, This includes the development of evaluation designs, use of reliable and valid instruments, and methods for data collection, analysis and reports.
Detailed knowledge of current TB, TB/HIV and DR-TB landscape in Uganda, the health care system, Ministry of Health policies, regulations and program priorities
Detailed knowledge of USAID administrative policies and regulations
Demonstrated experience in onsite training, mentorship and OI coaching approaches
