Job Summary The Economic and Social Empowerment (EA$E) Officer is based in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and is responsible for supporting the implementation of the EA$E program in the field locations. This includes supervising Community Volunteers(CV), conducting regular VSLA Training monitoring field activities, collecting data and providing mentoring and coaching support to CVs and EA$E groups. The Economic Empowerment Officer is also responsible for conducting the Group Discussion Series (GDS) and monitoring the implementation of the CEFE business skills training.
It is expected that the EA$E Officer will play an active role in building community capacity in the effective running of EA$E groups. This position reports directly to the GBV Manager.
Specific Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the economic empowerment officer include, but are not limited to. the following:
Program Development and Implementation:
Ensure all EA$E activities (VSLA, DGS and business skills) are implemented on time and with high quality.
Actively participate in all EA$E Training of Trainers sessions and train EA$E Community Outreach Volunteers.
Provide technical support and supervision to EA$E Community Volunteers
Organize and participate in monthly meetings with EA$E community volunteers
Conduct frequent field visits to monitor and provide capacity building support to EA$E Community Volunteers
Facilitate the Discussion Group Series (DGS) with EA$E members and spouses
Monitor implementation of business skills training and report findings to GBV Manager.
Collect monitoring data for the VSLA and DGS components of the EA$E program as per the monitoring system in place.
Actively address challenges in program implementation and propose solutions to GBV Manager and GBV Coordinator
Document case studies and lessons learned and share with the GBV Coordinator as scheduled.
Work with Logistics and Procurement Team to procure EA$E supplies following IMC procurement policies and procedures, within program budgets, and ensure timely distribution of supplies/items.
Work with the GBV Manager to create detailed weekly and monthly work plans.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold other principles in line with the GBV programming.
Consider security implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with staff teams and community leaders.
Attend staff meetings and training events as required.
HR Management & Staff Support:
Supervise and mentor EA$E Community Volunteers
Support the orientation, on-going development/training and capacity building of staff as required.
Identify training opportunities for staff through various methodologies: e.g. online, workshop, collaboration with other NGOs, etc
Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
Adhere to IMC procedures in preparing the necessary documentation for procuring training approval, materials, and payments for vendors etc, in a timely and efficient manner.
Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct.
Consider security implications of all program activities,
reviewing all new initiatives with staff teams and community leaders.
Other:
Refrain from making false and unrealistic promises and commitments to the beneficiaries and work in the best interest of the IMC GBV Program.
Foster a team spirit among GBV staff that is conducive to all staff improving their skills and knowledge base.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop the IMC/GBV program
Qualification, Experience and Skills
University degree in Business Administration, Social Work and Social Administration or related field.
Familiarity with savings and credit schemes (VSLA methodology preferred)
Strong experience working with community groups
Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly and effectively convey complex concepts to populations with limited numeracy and literacy skills
Excellent training and mentoring skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and to foster team spirit
Belief in and understanding of gender equality, women’s right and empowerment.
Experience working in GBV programs and in rural settings.
Willingness to travel to field sites frequently, stay and work in remote locations,
Ability to speak good English. Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri an advantage
Flexibility and can adapt to prevailing environment.
Computer literate especially micro soft work, excel database and power point. Knowledge of other software an advantage.
