The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) seeks to recruit a ‘Research Project Coordinator-Small Ruminant Value Chain’ under its Resilient Agricultural Livelihood Program at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Office.

The ’Research Project coordinator- Small Ruminant Value Chain (SRVC) facilitator will be working for ‘the CRP Livestock-Small Ruminant Value Chain transformation (SmaRT) program in Ethiopia.
The SRVC Facilitator will provide programmatic, operational and logistical support for effective implementation of integrated interventions in selected sheep and goat value chain sites and contribute to monitoring, evaluation and learning.
The SmaRT program supports Ethiopia in developing its small ruminant sector to spur economic growth and trade that will increase income and reduce hunger, poverty and under nutrition.
Responsibilities
In consultation with the country program coordinator ensures effective and flexible coordination and implementation of small ruminant value chain interventions in Ethiopia;
Oversees the day-to-day management of program activities at field level;
Develops detailed implementation plans for site-level activities with full involvement of all team members;
Contributes to proposal (concept note) development;
Supervises and guides field staff/partners;
Provides technical support to the site level team leaders of the national research centers in program implementation;
Contributes to the capacity development interventions;
Ensures and supports timely and efficient monitoring, evaluation and learning plans and initiatives;
Prepares reports on technical and financial aspects of project operations, including project activities and their outcomes;
Coordinates the preparation of timely and quality documentation / implementation reports
to be submitted to CRP Livestock; including contributing to the packaging of feedbacks to farmers;
Ensures that all partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders are appropriately and timely informed and involved in the program activities;
Ensures effective dissemination of knowledge and insights gained; learnings as well as tools and methodologies to all implementing partners;
Identifies potential related activities to which the planned program activities would be synergistic to and communicate / share with the country program coordinator for further action.
Requirements
Master’s or PhD degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture or Business Management.
Teamwork and people management skills in a multicultural environment;
Excellent communications skills including verbal, written English and presentation skills;
Excellent inter-personal skills, leadership skills and a proven network with partners;
Skills of database/spreadsheet/word processing software;
In-depth knowledge in a technical or specialized field
At least 9 years of relevant work experience for master’s holders, and 2 years for PhD holders;
Livestock or agriculture research experience, with a demonstrated record of publications;
Experience in management of agricultural research and/or development projects in developing countries;
Experience with project monitoring and evaluation systems and tools, as well as results-based management;
Work experience in an international research or development organization;
Experience in management of partnerships;
Willingness to travel frequently to rural settings.
