The International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology (icipe) seeks to hire a Deputy Project Coordinator – Value Chain and Market Systems Development who will be responsible for providing leadership in the planning, implementation and supervision of value chain market systems development of apiculture and sericulture project activities and deputizing for the Program Coordinator on matters pertaining to these areas.
S/he will guide and supervise project teams working in beekeeping and sericulture, post-harvest processing of honey and beeswax, silkworm rearing and working closely with the rest of the MOYESH project team in alignment with the strategy, commitments and goals of the project.
The Deputy Coordinator Value Chain and Market Systems Development will be responsible for producing value chain and market system development strategy to facilitate the integration of youth to markets and brings together honey and silk products value chains actors for successful and feasible program implementation.
She/he will be a member of icipe Ethiopia office which is located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).
Responsibilities:
Acts as a deputy to the project coordinator and prepare detail project implementation plan and activity- and partner-based budget for the entire project period;
Conducts honey and silk value chains assessment in the country (including regional/global linkages) using quantitative and qualitative data to identify gaps and develop recommendations on how to improve the selected value chains and enhance the impact;
Designs a market and value chain strategy to facilitate youth access to markets and brings together value chains actors to successfully establish productive youth enterprises;
Assesses prospects to boost honey and silk production in Ethiopia by developing honey and silk markets and value chains to meet the growing honey and silk demand and substitute silk imports;
Provides support and guidance for the gathering of data and information needed to undertake an effective monitoring and evaluation of activities related to value chain and marketing;
Closely works with key private-public sectors along the value chains to enhance youth market access and to build honey and silk industries of mutual benefit to all within the value chains.
Organizes and facilitates discussions on markets and value chains policy issues involving representatives of the private-public sectors
and associations;
Oversees the implementation of business and MSMEs development and financial inclusion activities;
Assists in the monitoring and evaluating of the project outputs, especially youth integration to markets, throughout the project tenure;
Develops and delivers capacity development activities in the areas of agribusiness, value chain and marketing development.
Provides progress technical reports, lessons learned, success stories, and feedback to program staff, senior management, project management and partners for timely decision making;
Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements:
MSc degree in agricultural marketing/value chain, Agribusiness management, Business administration, agricultural/development economics or related field Or
PhD degree in agricultural marketing/value chain, agribusiness management, business administration, agricultural/development economics or related field
At least 10 years of relevant experience for MSc degree in agricultural marketing/value chain, Agribusiness management, Business administration, agricultural/development economics or related field.
At least 3 years relevant experience for PhD degree in agricultural marketing/value chain, agribusiness management, business administration, agricultural/development economics or related field.
Experience in multi-stakeholder and disciplinary development program,
Experience working on youth development projects
Willingness to travel frequently to remote rural villages
Demonstrated skills in conducting markets and value chains assessments and trend analysis and proposing appropriate interventions to enhance honey and silk productivity and market access for youth.
Experience in designing and implementing projects aimed at enhancing honey and silk value chains and linkage with market.
Strong working experience with key value chain actors (youth, processors, exporters, enterprise individual/groups, financial institutions, skills development enterprises, policy, associations).
Strong skills on value chain and market performance assessment tools to assess the effectiveness of the supply systems in accommodating additional production and new products
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and lead implementing staff and partners
Experience in relevant project management, with youth related project preferred
Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills
Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Access, Power-point, and internet communication
A high degree of personal organization, good team player, and strong capacity and ability to multi-task, work under pressure, work
Experience in designing and implementing and programming survey instrument.
