Looking for a Consultant to Facilitate a Writeshop for a Project entitled: Stop Violence against Women and Girls in Samburu, Marsabit and Isiolo Counties in Northern Kenya

Background:

International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) is a US Based INGO with its Headquarters in the Philippines in Asia.

IIRR began operating in Kenya since 1995 and has chosen Education for Pastoralist's and Marginalized Communities as its flagship Program, with interventions implemented in Marsabit, Samburu and Isiolo Counties in Northern Kenya.

With a grant from the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UNTF-EVAW), IIRR is implementing a project entitled: Stop Violence against Women and Girls in Samburu, Marsabit and Isiolo Counties in Northern Kenya to enhance protection of women and girls from Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and other harmful cultural practices, and for survivors to improve access to services and support (psycho-social, medical, and legal) by December 2018.

Having implemented the project since 2016, IIRR expects to conduct a "Writeshop°, which is an intensive participatory writing process for project implementing teams and stakeholders to generate impact stories for shared learning and policy influence.

Objective of the "Writeshop" and Consultant's Tasks: The consultant will develop writing guidelines and provide a clear, easy, and step-by-step "instruction guide" to participants to be able to draft manuscripts on the chosen thematic areas, then edit the manuscripts to a camera ready copy. Output of "Writeshop": Key output will be packaged success and impact stories ready for publishing and dissemination.

Analysis of the impact/success stories may also lead to other outputs including manuals, practical guides, policy briefs and some other desired products/publications.

Key steps during the writeshop are highlighted below. Pre-writeshop tasks:

  • Developing writing guidelines for SGBV project constituents to use in writing case studies, success stories, human interest stories, practical guides, community stories, practical guides and policy brief
  • Sharing the writing guideline with selected authors from constituents of the SGBV project
  • Guiding authors on what they are expected to write
    on according to the identified themes
  • Initiating the writing process through examples

    Guiding the writing exercise During the writeshop:

  • Facilitate the review and critiquing of drafts from the authors and participants and providing feedback until an acceptable draft of the manuscript is produced.

    Post writeshop:

  • Provide editing and proof reading of the final manuscripts
  • Produce a final copy of the publication according to the agreed format
  • Produce a camera ready copy for printing Time frame for the "Writeshop": Within the months of November — December 2018.

    Required qualifications of Applicants:

  • At least a Degree in development communication. Masters level qualifications will be an added advantage
  • Excellent facilitation, writing and editing skills
  • Excellent abilities of guiding participatory discussions and accommodating divergent thinking to reach a consensus
  • Previous experience in facilitating "Writeshops" is a must

    How to apply:

  • Interested applicants should submit an expression of interest (E0I) alongside an application which dearly provides the applicants understanding of the task, specifying technical capacities and financial proposal
  • The financial proposal should be detailed adequately, specifying the tasks, numbers of days and financial implications for the activities at each level, i.e. before, during and after the "Writeshop"
  • Submit up-to-date CV/s of consultant/s, proposed methodology of delivering the tasks including detail work plan mentioning deliverables
  • 3 references of similar work done recently, not more than one and a half years ago, including copies of the final products/ publications
